Amy Jeepers on here? Have 2013 Wrangler check engine code 128 just came on this afternoon. Code is for engine coolant not getting to proper engine temperature within a specified time. The ebgine temp. gauge on the dash reads normal. Will it hurt anything to drive temporarily with this? Thanks

    Dealer replaced thermostat and housing.

Check google... I always do that for stuff on my '07' JK. It usually gives me a thread on one of the Jeep forums that answers my question. They have been on the money so far.

It's not harmful. It just means that the thermostat has stuck open and the engine runs in a higher-emissions state for longer than the EPA would like.

The alternative to keep an eye on is that if the thermostat stuck open, there's a chance that if it closes it gets stuck closed. This could cause an overheat, so keep an eye on the temp.

The light on the dash is controlled by a different switch/sensor than the temp gauge is. If the temp gauge is reading normal then the 'Coolant Temperature Sensor' has probably crapped out. If thermostat was sticking, you would notice it in the gauge. The sensor is cheap and easy to replace. I'd change it before I brought it to a dealership for three days till they get around to fixing it.

is the engine light yellow or red? mine has been on two years plus. took it to dealer several times. could not find a significant cause. mechanic tells me it may be an emissions issue but that if the check engine light is yellow that it is not a critical. if the check engine light is red bring to mech asap.

I have a 2000 Wrangler TJ. I don't worry about the lights anymore - the whole dash cluster crashes every 10 mins with a "no buss" message on the odometer. Been trying to fix it since it was new. Now I just live with it. Seems like Jeeps have sensor and elec troubles and just the nature of the beast. At least the engine is fairly easy to keep and eye on otherwise.

Main reason for posting yellow check engine light and wondering if it could hurt it by driving it like this for few days. Dash gauges are all reading normal.
