Why is it that veterans can conceal carry with military ID or veterans designation on license but have to go through full process to get cc license to skip background checks

Because it seems the Constitution may have been "somewhat overthrown" or something like that, "at some point".
    Look it up.

I recently recieved my paperwork for my renewal. I was hoping veterans would be exempt from having to take renewal classes but I cannot find any information where it says do or don't.

If you want to keep your state-issued CHP card, you have to take the class. You don't have to pay LSP anything, but you have to pay for the class and send LSP the class sign-off. You don't have jump thru any hoops, as a veteran to conceal carry in LA (other than having a Veteran ID), but you won't be able to use your CHP card after it expires for out-of-state CC reciprocity or to bypass the NICs check if you purchase a firearm from an FFL in LA.

Veterans don’t have to pay the state for the concealed license anymore. But we still have to take the class every 5 years and pay for that. But if your license says Veteran you can conceal carry for free in Louisiana. The one thing Bell boy did good for us! So if you want to conceal carry in other states you still have to have your permit…. So dumb!

Just to clarify about the veterans ID part. All you need is the word VETERAN on your Louisiana drivers license or state ID. All you have to do in order to get it is go to the DMV with your current drivers license or state ID and your honerable DD214. I skipped the DMV and went to ABC title. It was a lot faster than the DMV is.

Correct but that’s only good for within the state of Louisiana.

Right unless you are visiting a state that also recognizes the constitution then you don’t need it. All of the south has passed constitutional carry except us ironically.
Didn’t realize the states with constitutional carry allow non residents to also constitutional carry in their state.
