    Does anyone here know of someone whom can tell me about these stamps.... they were found in back of a dresser that was from a great grandfather... was stuffed in back the drwer in an envelope... the envelope is an old rusty brown color ... also was a bank deposit from 1970 ... anyway i have them in a bank depoit box right now.... just dont know if they worth anything... 20130317_222934.jpg

    It's japanese from WWII. You probably already knew that, though.

    ETA: Looks like it was made from 1937-1940. So pre-WWII.

    The chrysanthemum is a giveaway, if you see it on almost anything in that format, it means Japanese before the end of WWII. It was the imperial seal of Japan. Bottom picture is of an Arisaka, a WWII Japanese rifle.

    Along the lines of antiques from Japan…

    "Made in Occupied Japan" is significantly different than "Made in Japan"

    I did not know about the chrysanthemum stamp… I knew it was Japanese but not in the way of antiques…. but "occupied Japan" is similar in that it was directly after WWII, during the American occupation. It is an immediate and known date mark. :)

    My attempt to totally hijack this thread...

    I'm an amateur radio operator (ham geek) who has made contacts all over the world. In the process I've collected a fairly large number of stamps from foreign countries. All are recent issue. I don't collect stamps.

    If anyone is interested in them there are available, free, pay it forward, get them out of my house. Just send me a PM.
