1st post, "native son" of Louisiana (born and raised in Shreveport) but I've been away for a very long time. I will be returning to LA to visit after 40+ years of being away. I've reviewed the basic laws and understand that open carry is not an issue, no permit is required for possession of a firearm and a concealed carry permit is required for carrying, well, concealed.

I currently have a LTC Class A with no restrictions from the Commonwealth of MA, a Utah CCW and a Non-Res P&R from NH. None of those have reciprocity with LA.

Does LA offer a non-resident LTC (or whatever it is called in LA) and what is the process for application?

After almost 45 years of carrying, I really do feel nakeeed without my firearm and would like to be able to carry concealed while I visit.

Any words of wisdom? Thanks for any input.

P.S. I'd prefer not to open carry.

According to the LA. CHP Website you are GTG. Check it out.

A link would be helpful. I googled "LA concealed handgun" and got a bunch of stuff about applying. Am I missing something? You're response leads me to believe I have the necessary permits to carry without doing anything else.

Here's the LA CCW site. Utah CCWs are honored in LA. As I'm sure you know, you have to follow Louisiana Law regardless of what state issued your permit, like the prohibited locations.

Absolutely! I own a ranch in West Texas and am very aware of State Laws and complying with them while I am there. I've been doing this a long time. But thank you for the heads up, I appreciate it.

What's the climate like for open carry in LA? Do people get their knickers in a twist? Call the cops? As a "stranger in a strange land" I doubt I would open carry but it's nice to know the general demeanor of the populous.

I could count on half a hand the number of times I've seen open carry. In the Nola area it is very rare.

People don't OC around here much unless they want attention. If you are well dressed w/ a tucked in shirt and in decent shape, most people will assume you are a cop. Still not a good plan though.

Gee...I hope you weren't too confused and unable to follow the conversation.

I wasn't confused and haven't been for about last 19 years that I've had a Louisiana CHP
If you are going to answer a question from someone out of state trying to get info on our law you could use the proper name. It makes you look like you might know what you are taking about.

It was a typo. It amounted to a semantics error. Lighten up, Francis.
