This is for you LEO's on routine traffic duty. So you stop someone, and ask them to come to the rear of the vehicle. Say they have a loaded weapon in the vehicle, do you prefer them to alert you to the fact or not?

I'm not a cop, but I probably wouldn't mention it if it was just a routine traffic stop, unless they asked if there were any weapons in the vehicle, in which I would let them know. I also haven't been pulled over while having a firearm in the vehicle, so haven't been in the situation yet. Since I'm not LEO I'm not going to vote on the poll.

I don't imagine any officer would PREFER not to be informed.

The better question is, how does it affect your overall interaction, being informed vs. not being informed.

We all know we don't have to inform (unless on your person). Is there times ignorane would be bliss from the officer's standpoint? In the past I've always voluntarily informed, but have recently started carrying a rifle in the trunk. How would starting our conversation off with "I have a pistol in the front, and an AK in the trunk" affect our encounter, assuming I'm otherwise polite and good-natured?

Yes, I would like to know if the officer pulling me over has a gun in his vehicle.

I prefer to know it up front, it makes the driver look like they are law abiding and have nothing to hide. I know it's not a requirement, but some things just don't make for good surprises.

and how many of the LEO's who have responded "yup" are going to take control of the firearm once notified? Lets assume the driver is unarmed, at the rear of the vehicle, and able to legally posses a firearm

I have never been pulled over and the officer NOT ask me if I had any weapons. So, since I was always asked I would let them know that I had my gun in the car with me.

I wouldnt offer any info, after all it is in your car and not in your reach, so it does not matter. The only time I would say it is if they insisted on searching my vehicle, but then they would need probable cause for that.

Mine is next to my leg, so it is easily reached. Most normal height people cant tell it is there when im sitting next to it. Or i have a shirt over it.
