    black squirrel: could be. Are they much bigger than fox squirrels? I thought they were just a color variation of the gray squirrel?

    A black squirrel is a color variation of fox squirrel. Fox squirrels can get pretty big, routinely twice as big as grays.

    200yds is a long way to be judging size, esspecially a small animal; and black animals are the hardest to judge. Chances are it was a black squirrel.

    I was watching the area for a while and also saw a couple of raccoons in the same spot 10 minutes earlier, so I had something to go by as far as judging size was concerned.

    But, I agree. Most likely it was a really big black squirrel. Nothing else fits.
