This post really is to help out a friend. No. Really.
Gent recently discovered a war bring back from his grandfather. It is NFA item, of that I have no doubt. But...his GF paid the $200 tax and had the weapon registered to his wife, my Bud's grandmother. It was sent to US, from ETO, during WW2. This thing has sat unknown in a chest for over 50+ years. Friends mother recently died and in going through her things, the weapon and it's original registration paperwork were discovered. He has told me there are no other heirs, but this family has not had formal wills, sucessions, etc. through the generations. Again, he is only heir as far as I know, and the weapon was at one time registered. He has that documentation.
So...who can the BS members recommend as an attorney for my friend to speak with? He was close to his grandfather, and has also discovered paper items that indicate this weapon was used by same during WW2, rather than US issue equipment. He wants to follow the law and get this properly registered/transferred to him if he can.
So...who/what do you know? Out of my area on this, he's not a "shooter" per se, but this thing holds family value to him for obvious reasons. Thanks for any assistance you can render.
