    If you're on the northshore, mandeville seafood has the best boil mix, and if you like it hotter, they sell smaller bags to bring the heat up.

    and...chinese red pepper is no secret. its the norm in any respectable place that boils volume. (cheaper is the first reason)

    A buddy of mine said when he was at LaTech one of his frat buddies put a whole pineapple in the boil. It soaked up some seasoning but still retained some sweetness complementing the spice. I been meaning to try it myself.

    Watch your ice or cold water input during your soak time. Remember you are adding more water by doing this and it will
    weaken your spice that you are adding for flavor. Some people are now adding cold containers instead of ice or cold water.
    Just saying!

    I normally use Swamp Dust seasoning for the boil. Throw in a brick of spam towards the end to let it marinate and then fry it in the mornin' with your two eggs.
