Here's an interesting looking old pistol. (It looks like it's had some DIY gunsmithing done, especially on that side rail.) But does anyone know what it started life out as? I'd love to know.

    Google Mauser broomhandle, Mauser C96.

Basically, it was the first successful semi-automatic handgun that was mass-produced. I have always wanted one, but never badly enough to cough up the scratch needed. A decent one (NOT like the one in the photo; there is a hyphenated word for what was done to that one) will run over a grand these days; a nice one will fetch two or better.

Expensive to feed too. But cool to shoot; especially with the shoulder stock.

    .

Save your bucks Brother. Your financial instincts are correct imo.

Have had a pretty decent shaped "Red 9" variant in the past and after that initial, "ooooh la la history" thing passes, you realize why designs moved on the way they did.

Get you a P-35 from Inglis, the Chinese contract, and go to town with that shoulder holder. Now THAT one rocks. :)

I had a Chi-Com C96, matching numbers, but the bore was shot out and the slide stops were SERIOUSLY deformed from repeated impact and it was NOT safe to shoot. I would have LOVED to have it reconditioned into a shooter but just never had the bucks so I sold it to a pawn shop for twice what I gave for it and they marked it up 4x that!
