    The Nasty New Orleans.
Yes, sir, I am. I currently am unable to feed myself and my children without the assistance of social service programs. I also must live with family members who are generous enough not to charge me rent.

Furthermore, he said, "that's were the lower class shops." That statement means the lower class shops at Wal-Mart. It does not mean that all shoppers at Wal-Mart are low class, which is what you are arguing.

So because your on SS you think your a lower class person?Usualy only the snobby rich folk do.I know a lot of fine upstanding ppl that are on SS and gov assistance and are no where near low class in my eyes.

I never really asked them. You really shop at whole foods?I used to but the fruit and bread rots/molds too quick.I need preservatives in my food.LOL

This does seem to have opened up an interesting area of discussion. We all hate our addiction to the dictatorial communist China, yet we shop at Walmart. We hate government assistance, yet we agree that some fine people need it and wouldn't be able to get by without these socialist programs. It would appear that our political poinions are not as calcified as they may appear.

Bambam, I did not mean to imply that all people who shop at Walmart are low-class, but if you want to find where the people who stand outside Lowes shop, go to Walmart. In fact I'm not sure if you agree, but I don't feel that income defines class. I don't consider myself lower-class, yet I drive a 15 year old car as does my wife. On the other hand we own our house. We rarely eat out, and our idea of partying is sitting on the front porch with neighbors. We never gamble, I buy our meat from the day-old bin, and yes - I too have been known to shop at Walmart. When I do I park as far away from the store as I can, and I walk the quarter-mile to the store, because I don't want to have to deal with some of the people I see inside Walmart. When you do that you don't have to deal with the parking-'tards. On one occasion the cashier who was supposed to be waiting on me ignored me, and carried on her cell phone conversation. I quietly reached across the conveyor, took her phone away, hung it up, and got ejected from the store. These are the lower classes I'm talking about.

We all hate our addiction to the dictatorial communist China, yet we shop at Walmart.Problem is, EVERYWHERE ELSE sells the SAME China Crap. I buy American when possible. But I'm not gonna pay MORE for the same china crap. We hate government assistance, yet we agree that some fine people need it and wouldn't be able to get by without these socialist programs. Actually no, If the Gov't didn;t tax so much, people would have money to give to chairities and the poor would be taken care of like they used to. It would appear that our political poinions are not as calcified as they may appear.Wrong

I only shop at Wally World when I have no other source local to me for a product that they carry. For foodstuffs we usually shop at Super 1 and I too am decidedly in the lowest income class. That doesn't mean I am classless or of lower class as up till Dec. 17 of last year I was pulling > 70k/yr and was a college educated white collar worker for those that care about such tripe.

Yes, people of means usually do avoid Wal-Mart simply because they can afford to. Some even think to be seen there is "beneath" them. To those people I say "F them and feed them fish!"

Nomad, everywhere else does not sell China crap. You need to get out more.

Your statement about taxes is outrageous speculation, and I don't know what bna means. You'll have to help me there.

No, I think you need to pay more attention to where the products you buy are made. Not everything at Walmart is made in China and I would venture to say there are no stores locally who have nothing on their shelves that comes from the Orient.

Ok, please show me where I can buy a U S made TV or computer?
    Etc

Yes, SOME things are still made in the US, and I buy them whenever I can.

However, I do not see paying more money for essentially the same thing, sold at a different retailer of Chinese junk.

As to my statement about what would happen if so many taxes were not stolen and used to buy votes and dependence via bread and circuses, no, that statement is based in historical fact.

I knew of it previously, but last term in my "economics and emergencies" class we looked at the number of "private community assistance" organizations which existed.

    BAN typed too fast lol.

And people buy Ford or GM or Chrysler because it is "American Made".

Nissan, Honda and Toyota autos have more American made parts in them than anything the big 3 roll off their lines. Nissan trucks and suvs are made about 30 minutes away from me. You should see all the feeder plants around them that makes all the parts for these vehicles. Toyota is building a new plant in North Mississippi. The same thing will happen there with parts feeder plants opening all over the place up there.

Read up on the big 3. Engines made in mexico, wiring from canada, body parts stamped out in mexico....all to be marked "Assembled in America".

Hey guys, first post. This thread was really entertaining. Back on the original topic, I was parked down the street from LSUHSC on one rotation over there when I was in school. Parking is a valuable comodody around these parts. Apparently I made the mistake of parking my truck anywhere. I pulled in to this spot, went to work, did my thing, but on the way to my truck I noticed that somebody had parked directly behind me blocking me in. There was a large drainage ditch in front of me and this stupid piece of **** caprice behind me. Luckily there was an open spot in the line of cars so I drove my truck into the drainage ditch and back up through the open spot. The girl I was walking with kept me from doing serious harm to the vehicle, but I didnt write a note for their windshield that read something like "Thanks for blocking me in ****er." Then I spit on the door handle. I wanted to take some of the very heavy tools in my truck and put a beating on the car, but it might have actually done more good than harm

Yeah 4x4, that kind of thing was pretty common around LSU, especially around the smaller dorms. At least it was when I was there. Most people have zero courtesy for others and it drives me insane.

I've yet to really damage another's car for things like this, but I've come close. I used to carry the valve stem remover in my car too...lost it some years ago

Nomad, I did not say "US-Made". You pulled that one out of your - well you know. I said "China Crap". Big difference. The Japanese, the Indonesians, the Taiwanese, the Koreans are good trading partners.

I'm still waiting on your "historical fact" that prove that lower taxes directly translates into an equal amount of money going to charities that "the poor would be taken care of like they used to". In the past the poor were NOT taken care of. That's why they set up Social Security in the first place.

"in mexico, wiring from canada".....you can tie all of this back to NAFTA in the Clinton era. I think this hurt our economy and jobs more than anything Bush or Obama has done, just takes a little while to feel it. Of course, the current spending will hurt badly in a few years too

I love to tweak the Hardly Riddensome (HD) guys with their "American Iron". I ask them to read to me the names on their forks, carbs, brakes and ignition systems! Hint: Showa, Kehien, Nipondenso...

I strongly agree with this. Of course the Republicans were all for it too. Free trade with the Americas would have been fine, and it would have lifted all our boats, but free trade with China is like putting a gun to our heads and putting the communists hands on the trigger. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
