I've actually been thinking about buying my first Glock. I figure the one to get is a G19. Not sure I care what Gen I get (do I care?). The only thing I can figure is that they are plenty accurate and reliable so I should look for the cheapest one I can find.

About what can I find one for and where do I find a good deal?

    Thanks for the input.

I agree with $100 definitely being a good deal. :D

Seems like $400-450 depending on mags and accessories is the going rate for one in excellent condition.

I wouldn't buy 2G unless it was cheap. REAL cheap.

If you buy new you'll end up with a new 4th gen or a late 3rd gen.

3rd and 4th gen have ridges for your fingers. They're spaced ideally for children or perhaps asian people with tiny hands. So a 2nd gen gun with no finger grooves might be better, or better yet a new G17 or G26.

New you're looking at about $500 bucks most anywhere. A good deal on a new one would be $479, $489. Or if you're a LEO or have a GSSF coupon it's something like $398ish, but I'm not sure about that. A place like Academy will be something like $519. Some places want to rip you off and charge about $539, $549.

Used you're looking at $350 for something beat up, $400 for something decent or a nice deal, and $450 for a fairly newish decent deal gun.

Academy wanted $529 . B.R. Police supply was $389 , I believe , for the LEO price . They were out of " civillian models " , but the price was $525 .

    Civillian models my ass ...

Yeah the only G19 I would buy would be a second gen. . . .

Only negative about a second gen I could think of is that it's older, and merely by the age more likely to be more worn out.

Is there ID on the earlier Glocks as to what the "gen" is?

No finger grooves = 2nd Gen. (I know first didn't have them either, but how many 1st Gen's have YOU seen for sale?)

    Finger grooves/no rail = 2.5
Finger grooves with rail = 3 (Also note, none of the sub compact models EXCEPT model 30 (26,27,29,33,36,39) have the rail.)

Finger grooves with rail and GEN 4 stamped on slide = Gen 4.

    IMO a "good" deal is < 400
    An average/ok deal is 400-425ish
    above that, i'd hold out.

I just picked up a 3rd gen 26 with night sites for $350.

    That was a good deal.

Won't really pay much over $400 for one, or up to $450 (possibly, although I am not inclined... havn't IIRC.) for one with Night sites.

    3rd gen only for me.

I picked up one for 375 but it had pinky extensions and metal sights w/ a tritium front.

    Thanks again Paul. :D
