When is an AR-15 not an AR in a news story? Not very often!

I was skimming the local on line news journal for some political race information when I stumbled on an arrest report. Local authorities took issue with some free lance pharmacist and their security measures and took the youths to jail. Below are screen shots of reporters description of the security devices.





I am pleased the reporter did not jump up and down screaming assault rifle this, AR-15 bad. Maybe this one knows his audience!

Or is he trying to fill the gap for "them" in saying an AR-15 is a weapon of war and "the same thing as a M4"?
