Well, got married last night to my girlfriend of 8 years and mother of my 3 awesome kids. Decided to go on a small getaway for two night, leaving in the morning.. Looking for something in Ms or Al, as I don't want to drive too far from kids, and don't want to waste our time driving.

Just looking for nice hotel, nice places to eat, good nice area, and maybe a casino? Or anything nice to do for a night. We don't ever leave Louisiana so not sure of anywheres. Any suggestikns would be nice. Thanks

Nothing spectacular but downtown mobile is fairly nice, good food and if you want you can swing by the lighthouse bakery on dauphin Island for a nice breakfast and drive over mobile Bay.

Will look up things in Mobile, thanks.

If it was summer, we would definitely be headed to the beach somewhere. Wouldn't mind a nice beach scene.

If it's a warm weekend there are kayak rentals on the bay, restaurants I enjoyed, hungry owl, montego, heard "a spot of tea" was a good breakfast spot downtown. As a city it's got a touch of new Orleans, but more family friendly. Plenty of good people. Spent most of last year working out there. Also a place called butch cassisdys that was a bit of a dive. There are nicer and fancier restaurants around, I think I only found one place that didn't have good food.

Fairhope, AL, stay at the Grand Hotel. It's on the east side of Mobile Bay and I love the little town of Fairhope.

ETA: I see people mentioned Mobile, it's ok in my personal opinion but if you're looking for a getaway I'd vote for the above resort.

I have heard great things about the Grand Hotel as well. Have not been there but friends who have say it is very impressive! Congratulations!

    +1 for Natchez, MS.

    Plenty of things to do......

Good places to eat, Antiquing, Plantation homes to tour, and it is only about an hour and a half up highway 61.

Congratulations cuzzin! My wife took me to Natchez for a surprise weekend in December.
We took a carriage ride, toured some old plantations and watched LSU play football at the Bowie Outfitters there.
Same company as the bigger one in Baton Rouge, but this one has a bar/restaurant.

Fairhope is nice. A friend of mine owns Fairhope Antiques... stop in if you're in the area. She occasionally gets in civil war stuff, etc...

We just spent a weekend in Orange Beach. Lots of good restaurants, shopping in Foley, plenty to do. We did Oyster House and Lulu's this trip. Lulu's is an open air restaurant on the canal. They have live music on the weekends also... Nice.

After Redstickchick recommending the Grand Hotel and doing some research, the wife wants to try it. Lots of great reviews, so there much be something nice.

Congrats Neil! Another place to try, or maybe for your 1yr anniversary, is the Steel Magnolias B&B in Nachitoches (sp.) You can watch the movie right there in the living room where it was filmed. Cool.

    Congrats
Beach communities don't have much to offer this time of year. For staying close the Beau Rivage in Biloxi,Ms is hard to beat.

    Yay!!!

It's really a great place. It might not have clear blue water but it's such a nice little town. Y'all are going to love it!!!
