Where to move?

I'm planning on moving out of Houma before the end of the year. It's just too expensive here for it to be worthwhile to remain for my job. I do need to stay within 3ish hours of Houma tho.
I'd like to have decent shopping/entertainment/restaruants within 30mins or so.
I'm planning on renting, not buying.

I dont know what it costs to live in houma, but the BR area isnt exactly cheap unless you live in the ghetto. Cheap and within 3 hours of houma? Mississippi or some podunk LA town not close to much industry would be my guess.

I'm a fan of Carencro or Opelousas, personally.

Washington, Tangipahoa, St. Helena, East Feliciana or West Feliciana Parish.

I would not recommend Opelousas... But Carencro is a nice place, not sure on living expenses though?

Well in Houma renting a small 2 bedroom house is gonna run you around $1200ish.

Yeah I was shocked by the rental prices in Houma when I first moved here. But there are places to be had at a decent price. You'll never find them in the papers or rental agencies though. Word of mouth is how I found mine. I was eating in a mcdonalds and one of the employees was taking her break in the next booth. I asked if she knew of anything and it turned out her uncle had a place. He rented to me for a decent price and I've been there ever since.

Check in Franklin or Jeanerette. I think you can find prices better than $1200 a month.

Try Lafourche Parish, Raceland, Mathews, Locport and Larose (north of the Intracoastal).

I'm from Carencro, there's a reason I now live in Houston. Just saying...
I have a really good friend that was in your exact situation and he moved to Walker and loves it. Good schools and fairly close to Br for shopping, and only 3hrs to Venice where he flies out of.

Plus it's along I10 and puts you halfway between Lake Charles and Lafayette which expands your job market east and west...
