My dad is running for a parish office where I live. My brother and I are helping every way we can by knocking on doors and putting up signs. For some reason in a lot of places we put up a sign, his competition will come in afterwards and put a sign up in front and try to block ours. In some cases we can move our signs over or down, but should we have to do this. I really don't want to play dirty and move ours in front of his or move his. Is there a good way to handle this? The race hasn't gotten ugly yet and we would like to keep it that way. Any advice is appreciated.

    Step 1. Find person responsible.
Step 2. Restrain person in way that buttocks is exposed.
Step 3. Apply industrial lubricant to toe of boot.
Step 4. Place lubricated boot up persons ass. If at first boot will not enter adjust angle of direction.

No, it may not be the most fun but you have to take the high road in a case like this. Good always prevails over evil and the voters aren't as dumb as politicians think. They'll see through to their true nature. Remember "an eye for an eye leaves the world blind". Boy, i'm gonna catch hell for saying that.

This is Louisiana, being ethical is not in the political dictionary. They are doing it on purpose, so don't expect to reason with anyone. The next thing to watch out for is a rash of flat tires. Good luck to your Dad.

Having spent a lot of time with family over in Caldwell Parish as a kid I saw a lot of my relatives run for different offices over the years and this type of behavior was almost guaranteed every time. As for how they handled it, I really couldn't say...I know they relocated a lot of their signs and from time to time when it got really bad the opponents signs tended to "come up missing", so it pretty much went both ways, but my bunch never started it.

As for what NOT to do...don't have one too many beers and go around kicking the opponents signs to pieces, like "someone who isn't me" may or may not have done to all the "Obama '08" signs on a courthouse lawn in FL. :nono:

Get out the video recorder. Tape them putting their signs over yours. Send a copy to the opposition, ask him/her to instruct their people to stop this. IF this doesn't work.... well, you've got video of them, with a bit of editing and splicing, maybe with some 70's porno movies... an anonymous envelope to the local paper... :)

Please go around and pick up your signs when everything is done. I quit letting anyone put signs up at my house because so many of them just leave them everywhere. Good luck!

This one is super easy. Go to a favorite, yet discreet, graphics printing establishment. It may be to your benefit to go to one quite a ways from your local area...
Get a few decals made that look like they are an official part of the ner'do-well dirtball opponent's campaign. You know, use the exact same font, color, letter spacing- any decent graphics shop can do this for you. Then have their new "campaign slogans" printed on hard-to-remove decals to cover up their current old and tired campaign slogans. My personal suggestions are as follows:

Cherish OUR children for they are our future. A vote for "candidate X" is a vote for NAMBLA Now! www.nambla.org/candidateX.html Bring home the love!

Keep Louisiana values alive, sleep with your kinfolk! The closer the kin, the deeper within. Vote for Candidate X.

A vote for Candidate X is a vote for Aryan Same-Sex Couple Barmitzvahs. Value OUR diversity.

Candidate X is man enough to be a woman. Are you? Vote the Cross-Agenda Ticket, Vote Hermaphrodite.

    And on and on.
Did I mention that it's be a realllllly swell idea to have these printed by a discreet shop that's out of the area?
Also, did I mention that such "promotional material" should only be applied during the less active hours of your community? Remember that the cloak of darkness is your friend.

Use your imagination and most of all have fun and win.

    1) have your dad call the opponet and describe the situation. State that he feels the competition hasn't been dirty politics and he wishes this not to begin.
    2) recognize that it's great to live in America where people are willing to let both candidates put a sign on their property or establishment.
    3) Document any repeat cases that occur after 24 hours of making the call and report to the Louisiana State office of elections.

Chances are this is being done by a few over zealous election helpers and not authorized or condoned by the opposition.
It's an open invitation to be the good guy, and a good gut check to see if the opposition is an A-Hole.

    Good Luck!

Yes, call the actual candidate who's name and facec are on the sign and tell him what is happening. He probably doesn't know the sign pokers are doing that.
