Those WWP commercials that yank your chain cost money and are expenses.

No doubt they do good work. Why not give half to WWP and half to Homes for our Troops?

I try to keep my charitable donations close to home. I gave to CAAWS by having the bank send them a check every month. Funny tho, they never cashed the checks.

I give to the rescue facility near Cincinnati where we got Agatha rather than to a national rescue organization as I have a good idea that my money is really working. The animal shelter across the highway is a good candidate, too.

Thanks for the insights offered, folks. I think I have a better picture of things, now.

It's not so much that they may or may not be a scam, it's just a sliding scale of how you want your money used. Would you want it to fuel a public-awareness campaign that might get more people to donate more often, but less of your dollars filter into the hands of veterans who need it... or would you rather give to a quieter non-profit that gets a higher percentage of your money directly into the hands of veterans, who don't publicize and fund-raise as much as others.

All things said, WWP has a respectable score on most charity-rating scales. Not awesome, but definitely not a BAD score. There are others who have a higher score on the charts who also deal with veteran affairs. So options exist, they offer different flavors of aid, and I'll pick which one suits me when I donate.

    Thanks, all.

When you review financials, don't let the fact that it relates to money discombobulate you. Its just numbers. If it helps, think of it as rounds of 22lr or matchsticks.

That's exactly why casinos exchange your money for checks. So you are less aware of it being real money.

And don't just look at Income Statements. Balance Sheets are every bit as vital in evaluating the truth of an organization's situation.
