^^^ this. my dad told me this about some dumbass, race card carrying/playing teacher I had in 8th grade and I've never forgotten it. It's not always as easy to practice as it is to say, but once I never had to see that b1tch again, I was better than OK. Now, I'm successful and she's probably still the miserable human being she was, marching on the capital because Jindal is about to pop her bubble for good.

I have a very similar experience! I did cost me a free scholarship to Tulane; but I revel knowing she is probably destitute! And; old and ugly!

It sounds to me like he learned about guns from classic rock music. Please point out to him the difference in a .38special and a "Saturday Night Special".

    beat me to it....

Two feets they come a creepin'
    Like a black cat do
And two bodies are layin' naked
Creeper think he got nothin' to lose
So he creeps into this house, yeah
    And unlocks the door
And as a man's reaching for his trousers
Shoots him full of .38 holes

    (Chorus)
    Mr.Saturday night special
Got a barrel that's blue and cold
    Ain't no good for nothin'
But put a man six feet in a hole

    Big Jim's been drinkin' whiskey
And playing poker on a losin' night
And pretty soon, Big Jim starts a thinkin'
    Somebody been cheatin' and lyin'
So Big Jim commences to fightin'
I wouldn't tell you no lie
And Big Jim done pull his pistol
Shot his friend right between the eyes

    (Chorus)

    Oooh Saturday night special...
For twenty dollars you can buy yourself one too...

Oooh let me tell you all about it...

Well hand guns are made for killin'
They ain't no good for nothin' else
And if you like to drink your whiskey
    You might even shoot yourself
So why don't we dump 'em people
To the bottom of the sea
Before some ole fool come around here
Wanna shoot either you or me

    (Chorus)

Ooooh it's a Saturday night special
And I'd like to tell you what you can do with it too...

Before taking the previous advice to "set him/the record straight" you might want to decide if you need the credit from his class or not. :)

Reminds me of my Socialogy prof, also at UNO, who should have been teaching Socialism rather than Socialogy.

Although the two are pretty much the same anyway.

Just stand up and walk out without saying a word.

Go to the restroom, get a drink, whatever.

Stick your head back inside....if he's on topic of the course, rejoin the class. if not, wait some more.

Eventually, if not immediately, you will be questioned: Politely advise that you are not receiving instruction regarding the course that you PAID for and will gladly rejoin the class when he gets back on topic. If that's a problem, you will gladly discuss it with him in the presence of his department head, and preferably the chancellor of the school as well. If it becomes a problem for you, I'd find a sympathetic organization and make it a problem for them.

The outdated or unresearched textbook he must be teaching from is probably talking about "SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIALS". He probably wouldn't know what a Colt or S&W was, should he see one.

I'll never guess what your professor had to say about 38 special? I was guessing he said something stupid. So I was right. Was there a prize or anything?

I also had the aforementioned prof when I went to UNO. He was a tool.

If you really want to throw him off just ask if he is aware that a 38 spl actually has a .357 diameter bullet and the .38 measurement actually dates back to the chamber dimensions of revolvers that were mfg before cartridge style ammo was introduced. Point that out as all of the forensic wannabees in the class are not putting calipers on 38spl bullets and mistaking them for 9mm bullets....

Forensic science class...he has a Ph.d. in chemistry:

"What makes a .38 so 'special'? The guns are always cheaply made. They're easy to get, and they are designed for killing. They are designed to be used to kill and then disposed of. That's why you can get them so cheap -- so criminals can keep using them, disposing of them, and then buying more."

University of New Orleans...in front of about 60 students, most of whom were eating this **** up like candy. Brainwashing at its most obvious.
How can someone who is supposedly educated make such blanket statements? Further, they are blatantly wrong!!!!!

He can bc you won't stand up and challenge him. The check you write is for thousands, Id at least get a raised heart rate from it. Liberal spewing Professors was what I loved about college.

The real question is whether its going to be on the test. Picture having to answer a multiple choice question where you have to choose between clip and magazine and he thinks the correct answer is clip!

I would anonymously send him a note giving him the correct terminology. Of course there is the off chance that he knows it and is just trying to **** off the gun enthusiast... or at least identify them.
