Hey guys, I have a 16 year old son who is an avid shooter, he participated in the local IDPA matches for a while then all of this ammo scare happened. He has tried 4-H and didn't seem to be interested at all. Does anyone know anything he can get involved in? He has told me he is feeling outta place because he cant compete. I was just wondering if there was something around the bossier area he could get involved in rather easily. Thanks.

The IDPA matches are the only game in town in the Bossier area. You can go the "uspsa.org" web site to look up matches in your area. You will have to run into East Texas to find some local matches. Don't know how far you want to drive to make a match and you still have to have ammo. You didn't say what gun/caliber your using but at 16, he's plenty old enough to load his own ammo. Reloading is a good way to keep him busy and it makes he responsible for his ammo needs. Hope this helps.

Has he thought about going "old school"?
    As in Cowboy Action?

There's a match this Saturday at the Long Range Alley Gun Club south of Shreveport, take the Relay station exit on I-49. Shooting starts around 9 am if you want to come check it out.

If Ruston isn't to far of a drive for you, the Ruston Gun Club does a Steel Challenge match once a month! You could get him a pretty sweet .22 Open setup, like a 22/45 Lite with a compensator and a red dot.

4-H couldn't steer him into something else shooting related? They have all sorts of disciplines.

And as for ammo scarcity; he only needs 150 rounds to compete in some matches. That's 3 boxes!?! It isn't that scarce.

While Its a far drive, the LSA sponsers Junior shooters for Highpower. We provide guns, ammo, coats, all the equipment. You would need to travel to Gonzales or Donaldsonville for the matches though.

Thanks everyone, he does have a 22 and he has done the steel challenge before, he likes it, we just barely have any 22 left. We don't have a reloader as of the moment but, we have plenty of brass. Thankyou all!! we will look into this!
