Then came the most horrific news of the whole *zombie* wave: up in Montreal, a kitten-killing gay porn star named Luka Rocco Magnotta murdered a 33-year-old Chinese student named Lin Jun, beheaded him, cut him into pieces, sodomized the dead torso, ate pieces of his body, fed some of it to a hungry dog and mailed the victim’s hand and foot to the headquarters of Canada’s two main political parties. Magnotta, who was captured in Berlin, Germany on Monday, filmed the whole grisly murder and its aftermath and posted it online.

    WHAT. THE. ****

Oh my Gawd. Ya'll are forcing me to be a geek.

    Zombie's can't starve to death. They're dead.

It's common for people to confuse the point. In 28 Days Later they're living humans who're infected with a virus and therefore can starve to death. 28 Day's Later isn't a zombie movie. It's a plague movie.

Zombies can wear out over time. Like a machine.

So.... you've seen a real zombie to know?

Nope I sure have not. They're not real. However much like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny there are generally held beliefs as to what are these fictional creatures capabilities.

When I point out that they, meaning fictional zombies, can't die it's much the same as if you said, "Santa Claus came and took my kid's tooth from under his pillow last night and left a quarter."

If someone posted a message that said the Tooth Fairy is responsible for that job not Santa Claus. Then does that imply that they think both the Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus are real? I think not.

I actually didn't explain that they were fictional when I answered. So I'm sorry I confused you.

George Romero created the modern version of the zombie. By that definition Zombie's are dead and as such cannot die. I thought we were all kidding in the same way about the same subject. When we jokingly talk about zombie apocalypse those are the version we are talking about. However the old school zombie might be alive depending on the Voodoo used to enslave that individual. That also is not real. I hope I didn't confuse you by not saying that before hand.

If it gets that bad here I have a 12g for you .

Quoting Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks "Detection" point 3.

Cases of "violent insanity" in which the subject attacked friends or
family without the use of weapons. Find out if the attacker bit or
tried to bite his victims. If so, are any of the victims still in the hos-
pital? Try to discover if any of these victims mysteriously died
    within days of their bite.

    It's happening! :eek3:

Now I'm extra confused... if they can't die, why shoot them in the head?

Now here's what I understand from reading Max Brooks.

There are collections of cells in the brain that are still firing but not in anyway the same way as a living human. They're like multi cell viruses. Viruses are only "alive" in the looses sense of the word. They actually only have fragments of DNA (viruses) that over ride a hosts DNA and cause the host to replicate the virus until it dies. Zombies would be much the same. No emotions, no thoughts or self awareness, no idea or concept of themselves, no memories, etc. They are simply reflex and response automata. They don't eat the flesh of it's victims and digest it. They eat it b/c that's what they do. They don't breath. The George Romero zombies actually rose up out of the graves without ever having been exposed to anything. Radiation or some other phenomena was blamed without ever any real explanation for the cause given.

More modern zombies, such as those in The Walking Dead, are spread by a virus. The virus kills the host. After the host dies the virus starts lower brain function again and the zombie reanimates to spread the virus.

But I have to say it again. This is like talking about Klingons versus Darth Vader. None of these things exist in the real world.

If were back to talking about the walking dead, and zombies being a virus, then 28 days later would be right again. So, since there are a ton of different "zombies" I come back to my original question, how do you know which one is the right one, to tell him he is wrong?

In 28 Days Later they are infected not dead. A shot to the body will stop them if it hits something vital. They have a pulse, breath air, and need to food/water to survive. They are NOT zombies since they're alive.

In The Walking Dead they are infected. The virus kills them dead. Then they become animated, but without a pulse, breathing, etc. They're, well, the walking dead not the walking plague victims. Now the dead bodies are still carrying the virus.

Although in The Walking Dead we now learned at the end of last season that everyone now is infected. But for some reason the virus didn't kill them like it did everyone else. So when the characters die in that show now they will reanimate regardless of the method of their death. Head trauma would be the acceptation. But they will of course be dead.

To true zombie fans this is an important distinction.

I'm only a moderate fan. Like someone who watched all the Star Trek stuff but never played dress up or went to a convention.

But i'm still confused. With all of the different zombie types, how could you just tell him he was wrong? Maybe there are starving zombies in other fictional works.
