This may be a dumb question (I'm full of those) but if you had a knife on you, do you think you could have taken him once he got close to you? Maybe while he was pulling your gun out of your pocket. I would imagine at that point he was caught off guard and possibly fumbling to get it from you quick. I know the whole "don't bring a knife to a gun fight" rule, and I definitely agree, but do you feel that would have been a viable option?

Another question: was a round chambered in your pistol when he took it from you?

If I had a knife....who knows but there are to many "what ifs" in any situation. I have no way of knowing but at that point I had my hands behind my back and he had 2 guns. That wouldn't have been a good idea in my opinion.
As for my gun, as a cop once told me "a gun with no bullet in the chamber is a good as an unloaded gun. So you would be better off with a hammer. At least you will get more reach." So I always have a PP pistol with one in the chamber.

Well, hopefully the natural progression will play itself out, and this guy will end up getting eliminated by one of his "associates"- or better yet- a poorly-chosen victim.

I do not care how people like this grew up "disadvantaged". I do not care that they "simply made poor decisions". I DO NOT consider them to be equal to those of us living our lives the right way. I do believe FULLY that the world is a better place without these rats using up perfectly good oxygen.

You sound like you would appreciate a "purge"

Glad the OP is safe. Hope that thug receives some karma, and gets what he deserves. Our nation will never be as strong was it can be so long as it breeds this culture

I am having a hard time with the karma thing. Earlier that day, I stopped at a accident on the side of the road and tried to help a guy and save his life, but was unable to. I would think that karma would have at least let the mugging happen on a different day. But then again, maybe because of my help with that guy before, I was able to live through it. Who knows. I guess it's a glass half full or half empty kind of thing.

I sure hope things work out that you get your property back.

If at all possible you get a chance to pick this creep out of a lineup/photos and can do it- NAIL HIS ASS. Eventually, his luck WILL run out. I hope you're there when it does.

I among others am glad to hear you and your girl are unharmed physically, and thank you as we'll for the courage to post this. Don't dwell on the Rambo go G I joe comments, take it for what it was a really harsh lesson on many accounts for you and the members reading this.
Having said that, everyone here needs to remember that the Internet, neighbors or people you see daily is not the place or persons you want to make post of I would do this or that, or I hope he comes back to meet my new 45.
If you ever find yourself in court for defending yourself all this will come back to bite you in the rear. It shows motive or planning which will lead a prosecuter and jury to try and convict you of murder !
So please remember to keep thos thing that can be held against you in a court of law off the Internet and out of conversation and keep them to your inner thoughts.
What you do or say today can and often will burn your arse tomorrow !! Stay safe, BluewaterLa

Using this^ logic; couldn't everyone involved in a self defense shooting of any kind be implicated for pre-meditation if they; had Critical Defense Ammo in their defensive gun? What about having a tactical flashlight if the fight was at night and you deployed the light to assist you in killing/stopping the threat? Or, you had spare magazines because you planned on not having enough ammo for a drawn out gunfight? What about the self-defense training course you may have taken, or the library of self defense DVD's?

Point being, isn't everyone that plans ahead for a day they hope never comes, actually premeditating that interaction by preparing for exactly that?

Saying "I hope they come back, so I can show them my new gun" is a little different than preparing for the worst.

We should all be thankful that nobody was hurt and take this lesson to heart.

The biggest thing that I am worried about is that he had on a mask, so a lineup will not work. We have a bunch of Police man power working on it, so if he can be caught, than he will be. If so, I will pay someone in prison to pay his but hole a visit.

You make a very good point, and while most is said out of just pure anger, in my heart, I really do hope that he does not come back. But I can understand that if anything did happen, he would be more of an uphill fight to prove that it was not be if I go around saying that I would do something to him. You make a very good point.
The thing that hurts so badly, is that over the $300 and a gun that he got from me, I am going to be moving very soon. To do this, I have a 2005 Mustang GT, 2005 Ranger and 2001 F-150, and I will be selling all of them except my F-150 to get enough money for a down payment to be able to buy a house soon. I don’t care about selling the car and little truck, it’s the fact that I feel like he won. His simple act of cowardice has caused me to change around me entire life around. That’s what hurts the most.

I don’t think that he is saying that if you make plans to protect yourself that you could be more likely of getting in trouble. What I think that he is saying is that, if the guy did come back or was killed somewhere else and I pop off telling everyone that I want to kill him, they could look at me to see if I committed murder. There are fine lines between killing someone in self-defense and planning to kill someone. If you have a flat tire and someone tries to mug you while changing your time and you shoot him, you are protecting yourself. But, if you drive into the hood and put a jack under your car with an AR-15 in your trunk looking for someone to pick a fight with you, than that would be murder. So while talking about it on here, even though they are just emotions that I am feeling about this, there could be situations where things that I type may make me look bad or guilty of something that I may have nothing to do with.
Does this make more sense Emperor?

Bet he is part of the same trio that is stealing property in Shenandoah! They are masked and flashing guns on a few home surveillance videos. While committing petty thievery!?! I am sure they are a high priority because they are a home invasion or a murder waiting to happen.

Its normal to have an emotional reaction afterwards, with afterthoughts of aggression- but personally I'd hope it didn't happen again. The best way to win a gun fight is not get into one. food for thought.

count your blessings, get some training, and move on with life.

    Exactly!

Just remember to always blame your girlfriend for putting you in that situation in the first place. Somehow, I just know she did something (nagging, arguing, just telling you a completely inane story about her mother or girlfriends), to distract you. :mamoru:

Sounds like new love though, He will learn this after many many years of everything being his fault.
