Well, then... if you think its bullsh!t, then by all means don't bother them. You can open carry, you know. That should impress lots of folks, too.

And don't forget to wear a shirt with your "Body Piercing by Glock" (to go with your carry Glock, of course) thing to look even more special.;)

    .

That's condescending as hell. I hope you run into the same problem next time.
The vetting and approval system is broken and instead of whining about money, Mike Edmonson et al, should be either fixing the system (so that people can legally protect themselves) or the State should grant constitutional carry to the citizens.

My wife sent her app in July 30. She did it online. She got fingerprinted on the 1st. She got her approval on the 4th. So she got hers in 5 days. I'm astonished.

I just got mine, took about 2 months. However, my wife did everything the same as me, we did it together. She got hers about a month ago, so obviously it's not a matter of when you do it. Might be because some background checks are more complicated than others? I'm guessing because a couple weeks ago I called to see about mine, hoping it hadn't been lost in the mail, and they said they were still waiting on the background check from the FBI. So I'm thinking the FBI have a bigger part to play in this, the state is just processing the paperwork, but the FBI may sit on it for whatever reason. I was joking with my wife about it, commenting I hope they don't figure out about my days with the revolution down in Guatemala back in the 80's...lol. She didn't know me until about 2000, she was wondering what I'd done to cause a delay in the background check.

Just a thought, I wonder if you have a DD214 submitted with your package speeds up the process?

My DD214 is with my package submitted on March 15th -- so I would say no..............If you submitted a complete package by mail with a certified check you are pushed behind everyone else who files on-line. The LSP's system is broken -- they should allow another agency to do this -- they obviously do not have the ability to manage this process.

My son and son in law took the class in Baton Rouge on a Saturday. They completed the forms on line and went to State Police on Monday. There they were electronically fingerprinted and both paid for a life time license. The next week their license was in their hands.

    Total time 1 1/2 weeks.

SO why does it take someone who electronically fingerprinted 1 1/2 weeks and it takes 5-6 months (or longer) for someone that sent their application with fingerprint cards by mail? Their BS claim that they have too many applicants doesn't hold water if some can get it in 10 days and for others it takes 6 months -- can't blame that on FBI background checks.

Can somebody explain this to me?

How do you know it's not the FBI? Could be they do some background checks in a day, others take months. The speed with which they are processed could be entirely determined by the FBI. I would guess they have a process where some checks don't have any indication of anything to look into further, others get flagged for closer scrutiny. In my case, I suspect it could be because I haven't lived in Louisiana all of my life. I've lived in a couple of other states, so they may have needed to do a broader search on me. My wife lived here all of her life, so it was easier for them to do the check on her. Who knows what other factors are involved.

    1. 6 of us took the CCW class at the same time (husband/wife) - 2 sent in on Feb 25th, 2 sent in on Feb 29th (yeah leap year) and ours went in on March 15th because I had to get my DD214 certified copy. So the odds of all 6 of us getting flagged by FBI is slim to none.........none of us have any flags against us. Heck, my brother works for Entergy at a Power Plant - I work for the Federal Government and already have a security clearance......

    2. we lived in LA all of our life - except for me when I was Active Duty.

    3. So my guess is that it probably is not FBI -- I would guess it is the incompetence of the agency handling this program. OR maybe they follow Bayou Shooter and have flagged me as a complainer!! hahaha, but that should not have effected the other 5!!! hahaha

I think it's pretty obvious that applying online and getting fingerprinted at LSP is the way to go . It seems like most of us that did it that way got our permit very quickly . A week or so is not unusual . If you turn in a paper copy everything seems to go all to hell .

Yeah, I'll admit there does seem to be a wide disparity between the various reports of who is getting through the process quick or slow. And it does seem that those who do everything online with the LSP fingerprint scan seem to be most consistently the quickest.

Talking to a guy at Starbucks yesterday and he told me he submitted his stuff in Late January. Never heard anything and he called them in May to find out his print cards were not acceptable because they were to "light" and that he needed to re-submit his prints. Had he not called, he doesn't think they would have ever told him about his prints being unacceptable...

Because some state employee (you know what that means) has to take your printed information and manually enter it into the database. Same with printed fingerprint cards. There may be only 1 or 2 people that do this, and they can only do so many applications in a day, what with smoke breaks, bathroom breaks, lunch breaks, etc. As Chris Rock said, "When we break.....we break!"

If you apply online and get your prints at LSP, they are immediately entered into the database.

I started my online application this morning, 8/10, drove to BR and did my prints, got the link to pay, I just paid tonight. I had lived out of state for awhile, I also have the Doctors note for my anxiety meds attached. So we wait and see. Took about 4 hours more or less at LSP to get my prints done. They told us (a friend applied with me) the best time to come is early in the morning, they open at 7am.
