End of the day, as a regular guy the wave feature struck me as a gimmick, and a distraction. Just my opinion, and I'm by no means a connoisseur.
Unfortunately it's not for everyone, but it's far from a gimmick. The "bloke" in the video is Mr. Emerson and he's showing how easy it is to wave open the knife. The reason you would "get it about half the time" was because you didn't pull down and away. I wouldn't necessarily say it takes practice, but once you figure it out, it's hard to forget. That being said, waved knives have their place, just as assisted opening flippers do (which I hate).
The PM2 is a nice knife, for what it is. The compression lock and a FFG blade isn't for everyone. The cutting edge to handle length ratio is not equal, which may be off-putting for some people. I know of a good bit of people that dislike the finger groove in the blade, which sacrifices cutting edge length. The PM2 is also more costly and will be more difficult to get the sprint run.
