You don't. But if you go with feedback scores, you can usually deal with good folks on here. But everyone has to start with a 0 feedback sometime. It's always an iffy situation when you go to meet for a sale and there's cash and firearms involved.

When I buy or sell a firearm, I use a change of ownership form, that has both of us fill out our information and sign, just so in the future...if anything happens, at least I have the form to prove that my side of the deal was honest. Of course they could fake information, or use a fake id, whatever. I've been lucky that the few guys I've worked with off of the BS forums have been a pleasure to meet and straight forward.

Ive met with some iffy people, for lack of a better word, before. But from my understanding of the law as long as they are a louisiana resident with a valid id over 18, you are face to face in louisiana and they do not tell you they are or possibly could be a felon and you have no prior knowledge that they are a felon. Then you are fine and nothing could happen to you.

Bill of sale is always good. If they have a problem with it there is usually something they are hiding.

You should have a knowledge of the person. Everyone that I have done any type of deal with has been with someone I would go shooting or hunting with.

I met a man who had owned a business insurance business in a volatile area, and he had never had a complaint filed or been sued. I asked how he did that and he gave a great answer:

"I only do business with people I like. If someone wanted to do business with me and I did not like them, then I would refer them to another business"

Again a bill of sale. And look ast their id to make sure the info matches. And use your judgement, if they look shady don't do it.

Selling - As long as they are over 18 and don't mention that they're a convicted felon, you're good to go. I have not, and will not ever use a bill of sale.

Buying - I call the Sheriff's office with the serial numbers, and usually they're nice enough to run them. Again, no bill of sale.

If I know someone, or they have good feedback and are established here...cash and a handshake.

If it's someone I don't know, I do a bill of sale with DL number.

I REFUSE to assist the 'Anti's' in ANY WAY.

    America is still (Sorta) free.

I've done enough 4473's at red Jacket that there should be NO DOUBT I'm G2G (I have ATF frequent flyer miles)

HOWEVER: I would NOT give out my DL number to 'some guy'

a Gunstore... where the ATF can crack down on them... fine.

'Some guy' who might steal my ID... No way in hell.

SEE my ID... sure if you insist (Although doing this DOES bring up the possibility that you thought the guy was a fellon... can can actually HURT you. As if and when)

    Copy... Nope.
    Stats... Not gonna happen.

How is filling out a homemade piece of paper assisting the Anti's?

    I kind of thought the Bill of Sale was to prevent this;

I buy a firearm from Academy.
Sell gun to you WITHOUT Bill of Sale,
Call police to report it stolen,
They get my gun back, I have gun and your money. $Chuck-Ching$

    No?

Oh I see, it's about the DL#. Hell no I've never done that.

I actually hear ya, and I've never given my DL info or address to a seller. As for my sales, I don't actually retain the bills of sale. It's more of a "test". If someone is shady, and I request a BOS and they decline, I just won't sell to them. It's not even a matter of "watching my ass", I simply don't want to put a gun in someone's hands who might have ill intentions. If they do the bill of sale, I just toss it in the trash after.

Is it necessary? Not at all. But I've never been desperate to sell a gun either.

No, It's not about the DL#, that's just an aspect.

Oh, go for it... but when they see your 'for sale add', well:
