I don't agree w/ W&J's comment but I do agree with the point they were trying to make.
No knock raids should be used only in extreme circumstances. Save the hostage, capture a murder suspect that has been indicted already, terrorist, mad bomber, sure. Because someone has drugs and may flush the evidence, no.

No knock raids are dangerous for both the officers and the tenants. How many family dogs have been shot? How many wrong addresses? How many homeowners have been killed while being arrested for charges that would have resulted in less than 10 years in prison? That's a problem. That doesn't fall under the 'protect and serve' mandate!

I've been listening to W&J since 1984 off and on. They have changed from pure comedy and shock to mostly conservative talk radio with the voices used to hold your attention and make a point. They generally support law enforcement and the military, however they are concerned about the overuse of force, especially tazers. They are also concerned about the militarization of the police. I get their point and generally agree with them on this topic. Officers need appropriate safety equipment, agreed.

You may be right, nomad, but it begs the question, if the average citizen interacts with the police as infrequently as I would think they do (call it once a year or so on a traffic stop, or as a victim type stuff), what is the genesis of that perception assuming they have never had a truly negative first hand experience? I'm not talking about being mad because you got a ticket, I'm talking true rights violation, false arrest, excessive force, not hurt feelings.

    Internet folklore and facebook legend?
    Media bias?
    Al sharpton and Jessie jackson?

I'd be willing to bet news stories about cops breaking into people's homes and murdering people, and then walking away and having the taxpayers pay while they pay nothing has something to do with it.

Or people taken by the police to hospitals and forcibly manually raped in the hospital "probing" for nonexistent drugs, and THEN being sent a bill from the hospital (where they were screaming for help)
    Etc

Yes, I'd bet those have a lot to do with it....

I give credit where it's due: You, Sir, are BRINGING IT today. From dangerous grannies armed with sodo-chickens to Plato- THAT is running the gamut! :bowrofl:

You left out the Caddyshack reference in there too. Blending of Bill Murray and Greek philosophy is the future of internets. :D

Just asking because you sounded like ex - military LEO, wasn't asking to be an ass or anything. Most of these threads go into a wrong direction and really nothing worth reading after a few posts. Good luck with your future endeavors.

No sweat man. No offense taken. I had a few PMs asking the same thing waiting when I got home a few minutes ago. Appreciate the well wishes. Ive been told that its pretty easy to get hired on where Im going to apply. I wanted Northshore but basically got told that STPSO is going to stick new hires in the jail, and homie dont play that ****. I just wanna run traffic, work accidents, and if Im lucky, finally get that damned Harley issued to me.

    Just helping him out....

He said it, I just fixed his subject line to summarize his post more accurately.

Where I come from, anyone includes police. He didn't expressly exclude them and I don't assume anything; therefore, I see your strawman argument and raise you a lesson in reading comprehension, statement analysis, and attention to detail.

P.S. Many no knocks planed, 0 botched thanks to the last one. And so you don't feel left out.

If that's how you interpreted his OP then fine, though I see people say stuff like that all the time in the gun community and it is not interpreted in an anti-LEO light. But you chose to mince his words rather than ask him to explain his apparent contradictions, hence a strawman argument. I just call them as I see them. And I won't lie, I'm in a bad mood right now over something that happened recently to one of my friends. I don't give a **** about "saving face" on a faceless forum.

Does this place turn into a donut shop at night? :D

Morning humor for those that will get it! ;)

converts from the conspiracy-theorist section at the library- to the smoking lounge at the local GED campus- to a dive bar- to a donut shop. cycle repeats roughly every 24 hours.

It's all about the context, my friend. We're talking about no knock raids, as such, that is how I interpreted it.

Not to mention you failed to acknowledge he completely proved my interpretation correct.

We will have this conversation after you have a few years on the job.

Which is why I specified his OP. You're right that his later statements reinforce your interpretation, but I was just going off what he was saying at the time.

As far as getting a job as a LEO, just found out this morning that it's all but official that I'll be getting a technician job in the NOLA area that offers pay and experience I can't refuse. However once I get settled in I'm going to look into reserve deputy opportunities around there. I would like to get a firsthand experience of what the police actually do, and if my experience overrides my previous observations I'll change my perspective.

Sounds like you want to be a reserve to prove a point. Do us real LEO'S a favor and stay away. There is nothing worse than someone playing police.

All sorts of mixed messages on this board. First I get told I need to become a LEO if I want to live by example, then I'm told I'm "playing police" when I express an interest in doing so. What gives?

This is something I've considered doing long before this thread started. I'm volunteering my help and if they don't want it for whatever reason then fine, no skin off my back.

Your shitty attitude and anti LE sentiment is what gives. LE doesn't have to earn your approval. Plenty of us do this job selflessly everyday. Sacrificing the good pay and whatever else it is you want. You are born to do this or you aren't. Go make a lot of money and fantasize about what its like to be a cop.

When you go in to fill out your paperwork please bring a transcript of your previous anti government views and I can assure you they will not commission you. You sir are a walking liability to whatever LE agency commissions you.
