Tough decision. Both are great pistols. I was tossing the idea of a Scorpion and my STI Trojan 9mm. Went with the STI but was a tough decision at the time. I owned a Target in .45 and it was 100% reliable.

They make great range guns but the 9mm versions of the 1911 are even less reliable than the .45 versions.

4k rounds through my STI and no malfunctions yet. My G19 that I just sold gave me way more FTE and other problems. Not saying 9mm 1911's don't have their issues at times.

Are you using this as a range toy?

I put 50,000 rounds through a G17 with ZERO issues ever, just changed springs. I have fired more than 100,000 rounds from Glocks since the last issue which was a bad run of 9mm WWB ammunition years ago.
It is common knowledge in the gun world that Glocks are better for defensive work and 1911's are better range pistols.

Not arguing that. Just giving my experience with the almighty Glock. In general yes glocks are better for defense and 1911's are better range guns. Thats why I asked him if this was for the range. I just don't like Glocks. Have given them two trys and sold them both times. Same with most other polys I have owned.

I love my Sigs and the next pistol will be another Sig.

That out of the way those are two pretty different platforms, but both 9mm.
Are you more set on the platform or caliber?

I have a 1911Colt Gold Cup and Love it on the Range. That's what I bought it for.
I have a Sig 229 Elite Dark for a Carry handgun and it fits the bill to a T! I've taken two classes with it and shoot with friends around the farm quite a bit and the damn thing runs like a sewing machine.

I don't want to make a decision for anyone else but if I had the handguns you listed I think a target model 1911 would certainly appeal to me.

I'd view the Da/Sa as a draw back on a range only pistol.

In 9mm for the two choices you listed go for the SIG... I've been issued 1911A1s, 226s, and 228s and never felt under armed with any of them. However, in 9mm I'd choose a 226 or 228 over a 1911. If you were going for a .45 I'd take a 1911 . Even John Browning went double stack in his last 9mm design....

1911 in 9mm is the best range toy there is. I've owned both and there is no contest. The SIG 220 is one of my favorite pistols but a good 1911 in 9mm makes everyone look like they can shoot.

Rested with good ammunition both pistols should be capable of sub 2" groups at 25 yards.
