    Have you considered reinforcing the walls in the kids room? Maybe a bookshelf with some heavy books, or a metal plate under the sheet rock? Something to stop or slow down a slug, that is not readily visible or apparent to a casual observer. Or move the beds out of the line of fire if possible. A shot gun is a good option. (I it will still shoot through a wall though) The ominus sound of a slide being racked in the dark will send most bad guys running, ending the confrontation with out a shot fired. Contrary to popular belief you should aim a shotgun and practice with it regularly to be proficient.

    All good BBQ. I sure do love my lighter recoiling shotguns. I tend to defend them a lot though. After all they arent the all mighty 12ga 00 bk that seems necessary by 99% of the people.

    I keep 12 gauges mostly because that's just the most common you find. I mean if I was really manly, I'd have an 8 gauge right?
