Sorry for being vague in my last post now that I have a minute I'll try and expand. I don't think range sponsorships will do much for you if the range isn't open to the public regularly, the same applies for donations. Obviously Killian PD has been going without their own for some time now so getting backing based on need isn't going to happen.
Without anything to put behind it, it will appear as though a CHP instructor is trying to get a range put by your house, under the guise of police and public use(no range fees for students which would increase profit kinda thing). Converting the airstrip into a longer range would give the range something most other local ranges don't have. That would give the range validity, a purpose, and a bigger appeal to sponsors.
If you just tell people it's another PD range that they might be able to go to every now and again, and is nothing special they won't care. If you tell them its a free place to shoot 300+ yards I think they'd care.
Dude, your cynicism knows no bounds. Let me try to help you a bit:
1.- my students, and other instructors who will be able to teach there, will have to pay range fees.
2.- the range fees will help the upkeep of the range, and about half my personal profit from CHP's at PD ranges goes into the range fund. To help everyone else in the PD.
3.-the original range the PD has been using is no longer viable, we have to move.
4.-I've already stated if I'm successful, the range would be open As Often As Possible to the public. The more RO's = the more range time the public has. You figure it out.
5.- if you want to open up your wallet and pay for a 300 yard range, I'd bend over backwards to make that happen for you. Until then, it's a pistol range with an adjunct 50yrd rifle range for sight in days. It's the best I can accomplish.
I've received a lot of local support already, your opinion has merit but its in the minority, I think.
