This summer I was going to put together an i7 computer and I never got around to it. I ended up selling my processor and buying Marlin... I am total lost when it comes to video cards. I want something that can play games, but it will see more time with video and pictures than anything else. I don't want an expensive card, but I don't want to cheap out either. Here is what I am planning for processor and mother board, what video card will work with this combo?

    Intel® Core™ i7 970 Processor,6 cores – 12 threads, 12MB Cache - $215
    ASUS Sabertooth X58 LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard - $199

    Thanks,

I'll admit I'm biased towards nvidia upfront. Their Geforce GTX 400 series are outstanding, and now that the 580 has been released, the prices for a 460, 470, 480 should be around 250 or so.

And obviously going with DDR3 will smooth things up as well.

    Direct from Intel....

They run an awesome deal twice a year for certain industries. I can get the 960-4 core for $85 or the 970-6 core for $215. Too bad you can only buy one. They are probably clearing stock out since i9's will be here in the first quarter.

I have an old (last year) ati 4890 and it runs Farcry 2(crysis engine) maxed out at 1080p perfectly. same with Battlefield BC2.

Check out toms hardware for comparative graphs to find the best performance for your application and price range.
