6.8 SPC look up Lone Star Boars on YouTube he has tons of videos of him killing hogs with it. You can go SBR and still get good velocity. Pretty good selection of bullets from Fed Gold dots, Hornady SST and a crowd favorite the Barnes TSX and TTSX.

The 45-70 is popular but it only brings 3032 muzzle energy so it's not what I'm looking for.

45-70 worked fine on buffalo out passed 600 yards with black powder and ladder sights over 100 years ago. I think its up to the task of a couple of piggies. You may want to reevaluate the criteria that you used in your paper research. There are many calibers and platforms that will do what you are asking, including 44 mag and 45 colt.

If you like the 444 look for a lever version. I love the one I have. You can also look into the 30-30 35 Remington 44 magnum and 45/70 in a lever gun. I have used all mentioned with the exception of the 35. Avoid hollow points in the 44 mag if you can I love the lever guns and have used those listed above with success. Most have come with the 30-30 and 170 grain hand loads

I know you said no 45-70, but I typically use 5 rounds for hunting .308,6.8,7.62x39,44mag,45-70... Out of all of them if I know the potential of huge hogs under 200 yards I'm going with my 1895g 45/70 without a doubt!!!! Can go from mild to wild, 300gr hp at 1900fps, 325 flextip at 2000fps, or can load up 405 gr over 1700fps and will prob go from nose to ass on a big hog and through a pine tree no doubt!!! And most energy with least recoil, idk I know you gotta give to get!!!

444 are nice, and can really pop!!! Only reason I didn't go with 444 is because of limit of weight around 300gr, you can go up to 500+ gr on a 45-70, ballistics start on a 45/70 where 444 leave off

    Somebody wants a dead hog.
An inexpensive gun that will do the job is an sks, but it is the lowly 7.62x39.

Yea but it's almost the same ballistics of a 30/30 and I don't think there is an actual number to how many animals have fallen to the ol dirty thirty!!!

458 SOCOM in an AR platform is very controllable and if you reload not too expensive.
I haven't been able to hog hunt but target shooting with it is pretty impressive.
300-600 grain bullets and easily suppressed, what's not to like.

Yea I had a 300 weatherby mag once. Dam thing would rattle your teeth so much recoil. I traded it. And I love 45/70 so if I say the recoil was too much then I'm being serious. It was in a light synthetic stock I'll admit which didn't help.

My buddy had a 300 ultra mag, that thing was brutal! He had a scope with a 4" eye relief so you wouldn't get hit by the scope when you touched off a round, it should do just fine on a hog

Second this, I had a 300WSM that I was more than happy to part with because of recoil. I have no qualms about 45/70 either. I still think 308 is a great round, I stand by the federal fusion MSR's 150gr.

    .300 BO is my choice.
    Dropped a 350lb Boar at 150 yards!
110 gr. Hornady VMAX factory ammo.
Dropped the Boar in his tracks.
This round travels at about 2450 fps.
I haven't done the math on paper but real live hog test it passed with A+ Grade.
I have a 16" Barrel on ar platform.

Real life beats paper test hands down!!! I thought about the 300blk but went with 7.62x39 and 6.8 for ar platform, now once my cans come in from NFA lock down I might go for 300 blk, but you just can't beat the price of 7.62x39, and I have had great luck with steel cased soft points, I got some steel cased 7.62x39 hornady sst, waiting to see how they work

154 grain SP Tulammo works great.

I have some Dixie slugs Triball loads with 3 310gr hardened round balls and will put them all in a 7" group at 40 yards. That's over 2oz. of smackdown. They do kick some but will make that 300 Weatherby not feel so bad. You can push a 405gr bullet in a 45-70 to 1900fps or the 300gr to 2400fps. The 450 Marlin was actually not that bad shooting off a bench in a guide gun. I did have a scope on it so that added some weight.

I would not rule out the 300BO. You said that you were using subsonic ammo.
This is not the right ammo for hogs. Try some super sonic Barnes Blacktips or Hornady sst's

In the last 6 months my hog hunting buddy and I have dropped in the neighborhood of 20-25 pigs. All with 300 blackout and 6.8 SPC. Only ones that got away were the ones shot near thick chest high rice or follow up shots on large groups running every which a way (and we recover the great majority of those). We shoot only Supersonic rounds and we shoot everything suppressed. The suppressor is not there to make you super ninja quiet. It does deaden the shot so you don't go deaf with ur buddy popping off rounds a couple feet away from you (only shoot in your designated sector) and, importantly, it hides the muzzle flash to the point the critters cannot locate the shot. There are also a few good demonstrations of suppressed 300blk hits being nearly as loud at the point of impact as they were leaving the muzzle. I think Hunt Tx Hogs has some vids on YouTube with these demonstrations. Another advantage of these 2 rounds is lack of felt recoil. It is not uncommon to get 4-5 follow up kills shots on pigs in an open field. Try that with a 300 weatherby mag... I have never once felt under powered with either cartridge, and I have mag capacities in my personal firearms ranging from 15-30. Our shot distance typically ranges from 20 to 100 yards, But I scored a head shot on one last weekend at a little past 150 with the 6.8. And I practice with the thermal at shots out to 200. Don't get too worked up about muzzle energy and so on. The first time you get into a big group and are limited to 1 good shot followed by one long, running, shoot-em-in-the-butt-as-they-flee follow up, you'll understand the draw of the AR or other low recoiling semi auto platform for hog popping. Im sure just about any modern center fire cartridge will stop a hog if shot just north of the front quarter or just rear of the ear.
