Some of you may not like this, but I'm trying really hard to add another Damn Yankee to the State of Louisiana.

Yours truly may be headed to Shreveport to work at the phone factory, and the intent is "Staying."

So, where should I look for a temporary apartment?

I tried CraigsList and some apartment finders but it always goes to the same apartment complexes, and they usually have low ratings.

    I'd really appreciate any advice.

Nickname for the Phone co. Ameritech,SBC & AT&T. Did it for years, and as of yet, I haven't found one tech who could answer the question "Why run backwards you varmint?"

It's a phrase the oldtimers used.

wtf is the phone factory? Are coming alone or have baggage aka family?

I'm coming down first, then after I'm settled (and some lengthly pleading.) I'll bring the wife and two kids down. But not until I have a house lined up in a good school district.

    Shreveport - or therebouts
I would recommend South Bossier area for buying a house, but I don't know how far away that would put you from your job location. I grew up in Bossier, but I moved out to the country 7 years ago so everything has changed now. There are some nice apartments off of Clyde Fant parkway in Shreveport I'd consider looking at.

My wife and I lived there for almost a year while I was working for SWPECO and we lived in the Champion Lake apts. off of Clyde Fant. The rent was $880/month for a two BR two bath apt. at that time. That was in 2007-08 so it may have gone up by now. Nice gated complex but not sure about school district as we didn't have kids and didn't really look into it at the time.

Thanks V! That's the second time I had Bossier suggested. I was told, "If you don't mind the casino's" in Bossier you'll be fine. ( I guess some people have issues with gambling.) The garage is on Fortson in Shreveport, so driving to Bossier from there wouldn't be too far, and when I drove through it it seemed pretty decent.

May want to look in Bossier Parish. Good luck and welcome down here! ;)

Thanks! but I ain't there yet. I'm in limbo for two more weeks, but it's going by quick. I'm excited by how awesome it'll be to be there, and at the same time I regret every minute I'll be away from my kids..............Oh, and the wife.

Move them down too! Housing is reasonable in Bossier Parish and BCPD don't play. Benton is not bad, country but not bad. Very gun friendly in North Louisiana in general. Shreveport has high crime downtown as do most cities down South...

Oh, and as a general rule, I AVOID apartments that advertise online.... ASK the locals. They will help you out. Lake Bistineau is not too far away, maybe you could rent a camp house on the lake for a bit and learn to fish! ;)

Thanks! That's a nice location, but pricey. I'll have only one income and will need to send half of it back home til we sell our devalued house.

    And another hit for Bossier!
I don't mind the country, and there were some trailer homes listed on Craigslist, but that would stop any visits from the wife.

As far as Gun Friendly, Clark Custom would be my neighbor if I had my way. My alarm clock would be them testing guns in the morning.

Let me buy you a drink of your choice. Chalk it up to a tiny little favor that the universe is compensating you with, in lieu of your unfortunate circumstances.
