The good, the bad, the ugly of living in or around Houma, LA.

Times, they are a changin', and a new employment opportunity has presented itself.
It will require me to live within 45 minutes of basically the Houma airport.
I'm looking for some ideas of where good places to stay are.
If at all possible, I like living in the boonies, outside the busy areas.
I'm going to rent for the time being, and get the lay of the land.
Later on, I'll sell my house, and buy land, and build, or find something like what I'm looking for, already built, there.
I'm all ears...

Great place but I hope you like traffic. If one of the bridges is up or broken for any reason then getting across town is a nightmare.

You can live just about anywhere in the Houma/Thib. area and be within 45 min. The airbase is on the east side of the Intracoastal which is generally deemed as the worse side to live on, however depending on your budget you might find somewhere in the Bourg or Bayou Blue area that would fit your description well. Let me know if you want to come down and look around and we'll see if we can meet up.

There are some nice subdivisions going up in Bayou Blue and Presque Isle. If you want the boonies, Bourg, Montegut, or Dularge would fit the bill, but not too far down. And I live in Thibodaux but grew up in Houma if you need help looking around.
