    Amphiuma are salamanders, native to this area.

    Eel are fish. Conger eel are the largest species of marine eels, mostly found in/around Europe.


    So no, not the same thing.


    Too bad the OP had to kill this harmless creature because he was scared of it. Very unfortunate.

    That's the common name for them in SLa, tho. Just like spoon bill in SLa may refer to the shoveler, a duck, or the roseate spoonbill, two entirely different feather butts.

    Damn spoonbeaks. They always land in the decoys with that white belly and bright ass feet sticking up when I would get them on passing shots.
