The strangle hold of the 2 party system.

Until the silent majority stands up[50% who never vote] and votes in a third independent party, it will only get worse. I can't count the times I've heard people say they like what a third party candidate says and stands for , only to say they won't vote for him because they don't have a chance of winning!!!

I would agree that there is a problem with the two party system. Sadly, this memorable Simpsons episode speaks well to the reality.

I do have hope in our society though. Having come from a "battleground" state in regards to 2A rights, when faced with draconian gun laws people do show up and take part. In Maryland, Martin O'Malley's 2013 gun bans and other 2A infringements served well to unite citizens into well organized 2A advocacy groups. The proposed laws were much worse than what passed and what the state is now being sued over. The groups like Maryland Shall Issue had a part in doing a good job at damage control. The organized groups also had a part in the 2014 election of, GOP gov. Larry Hogan as well as noticeable state legislature seat turnover in a state with a 2 to 1 democrat voter majority.

    On Race Relations?!?

    TJ:

"Slavery is like holding a wolf by the ear, and we can neither hold him, nor safely let him go.*

"Nothing is more certainly written in the book of fate than that these people [blacks] are to be free. Nor is it less certain that the two races, equally free, cannot live in the same government. Nature, habit, opinion has drawn indelible lines of distinction between them."

"It will probably be asked, Why not retain and incorporate the blacks into the State [instead of colonizing them]? Deep rooted prejudices entertained by the whites, ten thousand recollections by the blacks of the injuries they have sustained, new provocations, the real distinctions which nature has made, and many other circumstances will divide us into parties and produce convulsions which will probably never end but in the extermination of the one or the other race."

*when freed, he [the Negro] is to be removed beyond the reach of mixture.*

    James Madison:

*To be consistent with existing and probably unalterable prejudices in the U.S. freed blacks ought to be permanently removed beyond the region occupied by or allotted to a White population.*

Others who knew "some" would never get over any enslavement.

    Plato:

"No trace of slavery ought to mix with the studies of the freeborn man. No study, pursued under compulsion, remains rooted in the memory."

    Thomas Sowell:

    "
The people made worse off by slavery were those who were enslaved. Their descendants would have been worse off today if born in Africa instead of America. Put differently, the terrible fate of their ancestors benefitted them."

Why this matters? When you read the sentiments of the Founding Fathers, you can see the brilliance of a perfect Union and the consequences of the flaws of human character. It is clear in their writings that they were dead set on NEVER allowing tyranny to ever grab hold. Their England (to them), was their slavery. Oddly, they perpetuated it here.

They knew the gun was the only way to ensure that freedom. They knew morals (bound by religious principles), needed to be followed and ensured to keep orderly societal norms. They knew that humans themselves were going to be the problem. They knew that factions would try to dissolve the Union from within and from out. They knew that demagogues would eventually blur the lines of law. They knew we would have everlasting consequences from slavery. They knew politicians were garbage for the most part. They knew the Constitution could stand the test of time in principle. They knew it would have to be amended for the betterment of ALL citizens. They knew it would be perverted by the Judicial branches. They knew banks would end up shaping the lives of all. They knew Tyranny would creep into the Union over time.

Look at where we are today. We don't teach out children the history of the US. We hide the ugly truths about them. We have monuments to their brilliance, but edit their quotes as to not hurt peoples feelings. We have a minority of people on the left that are hell bent on tearing down every tenet they aspired to for us. We have politicians that want capitalism dismantled for socialism.

In little over 230 years, we are on the decline.

Let them take arms....The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants" (Thomas Jefferson in a letter to William S. Smith in 1787. While I think the two party system is a problem, it is not the problem! The problem is electorate. We are allowing our less informed voters to steer the results. Think about it like this: If there was no television today and no internet, who would you know that was running for President? What would you know about them if you did?

Today, no one has to read a paper. Today, when you hear about an event at the water cooler, you tap your way on to the internet; and guess what? You get other peoples opinions of the story. Other people's facts. Other peoples slant.

We are a lazy electorate. The easy thing to do (a lot of people do this), is to watch the tv news or analysis show that best fits your ideology. And that's what the electorate does.

Phony liberals are lockstep with their puppet masters. They get their facts from the internet and tv. Look at the fore gone conclusion by them, that Hillary Clinton IS their candidate. Hillary Clinton! They are willing to vote for this woman regardless of the baggage, the scandals, the dishonesty, the lack of openness, and everything else that follows her.

Now watch as the Republicans are steered to their candidate by the same media.

    There is your problem.

It makes my heart ache. :(

The upcoming election should be a race to save the Country. I can see a matchup that makes it yet another race to take it down further.

I'm beginning to more and more think that there is no saving this Country

Let's say Rand Paul or Ted Cruz wins, which some would argue they aren't even the most likely to win the GOP! (I'm using them b/c they are likely the "most" Constitutionally-minded candidates).

What are they really going to get done? How are they going to "save" the Country in 4 or 8 years? Will they even have the Congress behind them to get anything at all done?

Just as I stated earlier. Voter complacency

Nearly 50% of the people don't vote because the only choice given to them is Dem or Rep. It's just about impossible for an Independent candidate to even get on the ballot because of restrictions imposed by the 2 parties.

The 2 parties have a strangle hold on the election process. Now with electronic voting you can't even write in a choice. The D & R's control the entire system. The PARTY decides who will debate, and you can bet you a$$ only a D/R will be debating and elected, and the finalist will be who can raise the most money for the PARTY. The entire national election process is a farce. Only there to make you think you have a choice.

The phony debate about racism is just a distraction and ploy to get votes for the Democrats.
The phony debate about immigration is a ploy to get votes for Republicans.
The PARTIES don't want change. Both have been in complete control of the system and it's only gotten worse, no matter who is in charge.

The D's & R's are the same sides of the coin ,only the spelling is different.

Heads you lose, Tails you lose..

Until more people actually understand what "Constitutionally" means, probably not much. This is a country with a lot of very dumb people in it now. Politicians at the federal level understand that. They prey on that dumbness, and get away with it regularly. Much too regularly now.

Just look at the last three Presidents of this country. In that many years (23), none of them have actually done what they ran on. And two of them have out right lied to the American people, one of which continues to do so at every chance.

From what I see daily, it's not that there are only 2 parties. It's that the majority of people aren't aware or have no interest.

My work situation has me in contact with a lot of people in their teens and 20's. Many of them in private high schools and/or in college. Others who are just out of college in their first jobs. It's not that there are only 2 parties to choose from, they mostly don't have any concept of the how the government was designed to run, or any interest in finding out. Their news intake on politics is "sound bite" only and the conservative viewpoint does not lend it'self to this. If you open up a discussion they frequently tune out and say "it doesn't matter what I do anyway".

I don't mean to insult anyone reading this who is under 30. (If you are here you are likely not who I'm talking about)

    Let me challenge this.

On racism; what does a black man or woman get from perpetuating the fallacy that slavery is responsible for their modern day shortcomings? Look at who perpetuates that for them? Look at who really profits from keeping them down. Look at how they conform to that belief. Are they not complicit in this perpetuation by not demanding that their chosen leaders stop labeling them victims?

On immigration; Is this really a compassion issue? Immigrants have been coming here since the beginning. That will never stop! But securing the border is not an issue that ALL Americans can embrace? How quickly and arrogantly we forget 911. But what does a true liberal thinker that happens to be a democrat get from unfettered immigration? Do you think that an honest liberal thinker believes that it is more important to stay in power and destroy the country than to protect it?

I hate to say it, but it all goes back to ignorance of the electorate. That is not on the decline, that ignorance is on the increase. These people wake up everyday and hear the same droning and mantra. They see it on tv, social media, in their circle of friends, etc. They are all being programmed to perpetuate the calls of their masters.

[1] Why would blacks not demand their chosen leaders stop labeling them victims ?

Because the pay and free benefits they get from .gov [taxpayers] is too good to give up. They lose all the free bennies, they don't vote, the Party loses power......Who wants to kill that Golden Goose..

[2] "Securing the border is not an issue ALL Americans agree on."
You can please all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time but, You can't please all the people all the time.

    [3] Unfettered immigration..
No party wants to secure the border. Free health care, Social Security benefits, Housing,Cheap labor, more prisons, reliable flow of narcotics, more .gov employees, and more BIG government handouts. Both Parties benefit.
There are laws on the books now that the .gov refuses to enforce.

[3]Do you think an HONEST liberal/ conservative thinker [politician] believes it is more important to stay in power and destroy the country..

    Damn right..
If you don't, then you and others need to do your homework. [This is not a personal attack on you.]

I understand your frustration. It seems to affect everyone that contributes, owns property, pay taxes, abides laws, etc; after 50 years of age. I'm 53! ;)

These issues have been with us for a long time, even before you and I were old enough to know what was going on. The only major difference now is the debt! Phony liberals in pursuit of some ideologically envisioned utopia have always put pressure on the regular indicators of this country's health, but never in time, ANY time, have they been able to handcuff the health industry and throw an unsustainable debt into the mix at the same time.

It is the one single thing, that will change the game for this country. Again (from another thread), I point to Greece as the example.

We have a pretender as President but not as a committed leftist! This idiot is breaking laws, and crapping on the Constitution and nothing is being done to stop it. He is not setting the standards for a great president, but he is writing the book on the precedent to allow the next phony to finish the job much more easily.
