I go to this place sometimes to LOOK, but I NEVER buy anything from them.

Their firearm prices are always HIGH, sometimes VERY HIGH and their Accessories are just as absurdly priced.

Mainly b/c they are sitting right next to Fort Polk where Soldiers with a lot of deployment money in their pockets and no sense, willingly pay whatever the price is. Rarely do I cross one that knows how high their prices really are. Most don't care b/c they aren't willing to drive to Alex or Lake Charles anyway.

Their Transfer Fee has been $35 for quite a few years. The highest around this side of the state.

Was so a couple years ago too when I had a Handgun transferred to them from Florida.

They asked "why didn't you come to us with your purchase, we could have ordered you one of these".
    >I said and how much would it have cost out the door?
    "probably around $750"
    >EXACTLY! I said. I just paid, $585, got Free Shipping and had to pay your $35 Transfer Fee and I still came in around $120 LESS than what you would have charged me.
"Oh...well...we couldn't have got it that low"
    >I know that, hence the reason I didn't bother...

    FFWD to Today.

I call them again about transferring a Handgun. Just to be sure, I ask how much is the transfer fee.

    She says, "$fiftzxipuumuffledsoundIcanthear"
    > say again, did you just say $50!?
"Yes, it's $50 for any Firearm Transfer Fee"
    > ARE YOU SHITTING ME!?! That's like 11% of the Firearms value!
    "Have you checked around?!
    >Yes I have, I know several other FFL's who charge $15 to $30, definitely not $50!
    "WELL, It's $50 Ok!? That's it!"
    > I hung up in pure amazement.

$50 freaking dollars for a Handgun Transfer...sigh...what's the world coming to.

Sounds more like a fine they impose for not buying directly from them.

    *UPDATE*
I brought in my Aimpoint 3X Magnifier w/ Samson Quick Flip just to see what they'd offer.
They tell me that they could get that set up brand new for $500. They couldn't sell mine for more than $400 so their offer to me was..........$200. I walked out of course.

Now unto some price I grabbed. Most of these things were marked 'On sale' .

    I'll upload pics tonight.

    Wrong on so many levels.

Granted everyone has to make a living, but shafting military personnel is not the right thing to do.

Saying that, I don't give military discounts, but realistically my prices are very fair. On the other side of that I take care of all service professionals on a case by case, depending on their need.

    That makes me sick.

Well they do offer Military Discounts, (they hang that sign CLEAR where it can be seen) but I can promise that it does not cover their average 'Price Increase'. So yea, it's a discount, but you get the point.

Shooters Supply in Lake Charles...they will order what you want for 10% over " cost " whatever that is and the transfer is 50 on top

Or just have one sent there it's still 50

I did it once some years ago...haven't since.

Shops like that jsut want to sell what they have scalp anyone not buying " local "

Local is good when it is comparable to " orderin' out " but dam...

The shop I buy from is a one man shop and good guy, decent smith and all ..but I would NEVER ask him to do an order in transfer. If he doesn't have what I want he can get it and so I've been going that way now for a few years... or my favorite... FTF

The name including pawn should be a warning too...I have only never had dealings with a pawn shop in whick I didn't think my butt needed a shower. Only exception I know of is Richies n Mississippi. They have gone over to try and help me with stuff on the web and phone.

If you you think that is bad, Donovan's guns on airline told me 100 for all transfers. I thought about calling him back and asking if it was still that much to transfer a 95 dollar nagant.

I bought a Walther PPS from Bud's Gun shop and had it shipped to Chad's Pawn shop in Lake Charles. They only charged a
    25.00 transfer fee

Star Pawn has always been outrageous. I too, only stop and look when I'm in that area. I bought one gun from them about 10 years ago, but it was the only place I found that particular gun. They were the only place I found some 9mm ammo when everyone started buying it up, they wanted like $35 for a box of 25 Federal ammo and around $45 for a some cheap brand box of 50. That place is solely for looking at stuff. South circle pawn in Alexandria isn't much better, they had a beat up winchester 94 several years ago I wanted, but they were asking $350. Blueing was maybe 25%, wood had no shine and all scared and nicked, but I wanted a ride around gun that I wouldn't care if it got beat up. They wouldn't come off the price for nothing, new Marlins were running that price at that time. After I told them new Marlins cost that much, he informed me that I should go buy one them. Never bought anything from them since then, just stop by and look every once and a while when I'm bored.

It is a discount that is marginalized by inflated prices. How disgusting!

That happened to me at Ken's Bayou Archery. Called them up, verified the $30 transfer fee, gave them the info from the seller so he could fax his FFL over, yadda yadda.

The gun arrives a week later, I show up with $30 cash, he tells me the price went up to $40. A small argument later and I walked out with my pistol and he took the $30. Never gonna use them again for transfers.

I understand that mom and pop shops can't compete with the volume of online stores on new products, but the used market is a whole different ballgame. There's no reason these shops should have used Glock's that they paid $300 for selling at $450 next to a brand new Glock selling for $550. That's just going to make me go online and find the same used glock for $350 and I'll pay the $20 shipping/$30 transfer and still come out ahead.

Lower your damn prices don't raise your damn transfer fee

Dave's Gun shop in Lafayette charges $100 for FFL transfers. This still applies to LOYAL customers who want something that Dave's can't get from any of their distributers but is currently listed elsewhere. Case and point:

Savage FV-SR listed on Gunbroker for $220 + shipping. Customer asks the employees if they can get one. All of their distributors are out so, no. Customer still wants the gun and Dave's says it will still be $100 to transfer the gun even though they can't order one for the customer. Customer orders gun and has shipped to local pawn shop for a $25 fee. Dave's Gun Shop loses a customer and the opportunity to make $25 for receiving mail and completing a 4473.

I thought it used to be $50, last time I checked Lafayette Shooters was $75. The pawnshop you are talkin about is probably the same one I've used in the past. I look the FFL transfer dealer network on gunbroker is handy, you can rule out a lot of dealers from the get go.
