He was probably pointing it wherever they told him to. The camerawoman and producer were probably down range to get the shot like magdump said. As far as trusting his safety to someone else, he’s not a gun guy. I’m sure you could hand him a federal HST round and tell him it’s a blank and he wouldn’t know the difference. They pay people that know the difference to handle all of that, apparently that person was negligent.

But Balwin wasn't pointed the gun at any actors. He was pointed at the directors.

The other actor could have been right in front of the camera, with production staff behind, in the line of fire. Or it was a first person shot, viewed through he camera lens.

    Be aware of your backstop...

I agree, of course, and checking it would, of course, shift some of the liability on him, which you know he/they don't want. And, why would he want to learn about evil guns when they are the scourge of the world? Oh wait, except when they make millions off exploiting the use of those evil guns...

From what I read, I thought it said the gun malfunctioned and not necessarily shot a live round. I was thinking the gun or parts exploded. That's crazy if it was a live round
man I would say it’s even more crazy if blanks caused the gun to malfunction and kill two people

Prime example of why we have the five basic rules of firearms safety

But this wasn’t suppose to be a “firearm”. It was suppose to be a prop gun so that’s doesn’t apply here. It was a movie set.

Ahh yes it does. Not sure how you were taught but I was taught guns are not toys. Treat every gun as if it’s loaded and do not point it at anything you don’t intend to destroy or kill

It was suppose to be a prop gun. Hence not a real gun, picture playing with toy guns when you were a kid. Maybe you didn’t point your toy guns at people either . Ever in the military and use blanks in training exercises?

After what happened to Bruce Lee’s son guns in moves were not supposed to directly pointed at people.
also no we absolutely did not use blanks for training or point guns at people when I served. We used blue guns for training and dummies as the *bad guys* I didn’t have toy guns growing up because guns are not toys. I was taught that at a young age

I don’t think so. I had BB guns, pellet guns, and real guns. Not much a *toy* gun would have done for me. Also had paint ball guns which in no way resembles a real gun and also couldn’t accept a real cartridge.

like wise we did the same. It’s a miracle no one lost an eye or something looking back at it

Didn't you say in your earlier post that you were taught guns were not toys, and you are not allowed to have toy guns as a child? Where did the close calls while playing with BB guns come in? I'm confused.
I understand that you did not "aim guns at people," or use blanks or simunitions during your "service," as those opportunities are usually only offered to combat units, not support. However, OpFor, MOUT, and CQB is taught exactly that way, not with what you described as a "blue gun."
