Got me to re thinking a similar set up out here...at the present our worst enemy is late night 4 wheelers tearing down gates so they can ride. BUT...who knows whats next.

Not to mention what damage a down gate can do where livestock is concerned, or these assholes riding in active crops

I see nothing wrong with a lawfully informed observation team roaming the home territory, I like it in fact. Our SO here is cool, they have been very supportive of our efforts and we have mostly been law abiding in how we go about addressing problems.

One SO deputy drove up last week to talk about an incedent, he never batted an eye at my 23...in town I'm sure at least some mention would have been made.

Where taking the law into our hands would be illegal and stupid, I think in our case here, the PO PO appreciates all the eyes and ears on the ground. We have almost completely stopped all off road traffic all the time and for real dam shore after dark...and no gunfire or fist fights. No spikes in trails, just level the playing field.

I have found tons of valuable info here on BS concerning law enforcement on private property rights...I have been able to somewhat share with neighbors, and thanks to all the BS' ers probably have avoided bad situations...thanks to all y'all , cops , lawyers, just plain smart folks.

"Despite the lack of success on their friday patrol, Travis and Birch said there are still benifits to the patrols."

Dosen't sound like anyone's property was disturbed while they were on their Friday patrol, so how are they exactly defining success? That is what concerns me about the whole thing. Are they looking to stop burglaries or are they looking to catch a crook. Two different goals, and the latter should be left in the hands of local law enforcement. Might not be a popular opinion around here, but it's the one I got.

I think that is a very popular opinion around here, and the correct one.

    "FREEZE!"
"Who are you? This is my buddy's house!"
    BANG

Guess who is going to jail.

As previously stated, I'm all for protecting your own home, or even families homes, but not a neighborhood. I'll probably catch a bunch of he'll for it, but leave it to the professionals. Why risk your life and freedom for someone's car stereo?

Question- you come home and find someone in your home or on property. They are bigger and can out man you. You are armed, and draw and Tell him to stay wait for cops, and he tells you to kiss his ass and starts to walk away as if nothing you can do. There is really nothing that can be done right?

In this case the pen was mightier than the S&W. Well at least with Danny shooting it.

I can only see this working if the community is a small enough one where everybody knows everybody . Like how he calls about he white car in the drive way . I can see it maybe working as a deterrence if enough ppl volunteer . However acting as a crime fighting part on someone elses property may result in some trouble .

I live in a decently small community - there are about 80 homes in my neighborhood- in a much larger town. I can probably tell you the make/model/color of 70% of the vehicles that are normally parked at any given house overnight. I have no doubt a regular participant in neighborhood watch would recognize a vehicle that doesn't fit in. Call the homeowner and make sure everything's alright.

Catching crooks, though? Leave it to the PD

    Sayin IT purdy-er and bigger

    Hopefully anyone wanting to ride the range to protect private property will have a basic understanding of their rights and responsibilities...Being among the most timid about the use of weapons in any but life saving applications, it's hard for me to even believe some of this conversation is happening;

Naw Johnny, ya cain't shoot for stealin the stereo and ya can't shoot cause the BG won't listen. Bad criminal manners are no reason to choot. Criminals with the bad manners to choot at me ...they get different treatment

Still luvin all ma BS " special " deptys :draw:

    thank y'all

You also have to look at the flip side of it. I am in no way defending the actions of someone burglarizing s house or something like that, but say I'm breaking into someone's car. If I see someone coming towards me from the street with a gun pointed at me, I feel that my life is in danger and you bet your ass I am going to shoot him before he shoots me. I believe it would be justified.

The perpetrator cannot claim self defense.

On this issue, I believe things will never improve in this state until we decide to turn things in favor of the victims instead of the criminals.

I believe Texas has the right idea in this regard. It will not change all of their minds- but you can bet your a$$ it will do just that with some.

I was taught that if it isn't yours, keep your hands off. I always did. It's not hard to do.
