"Despite the lack of success on their friday patrol, Travis and Birch said there are still benifits to the patrols."
Dosen't sound like anyone's property was disturbed while they were on their Friday patrol, so how are they exactly defining success? That is what concerns me about the whole thing. Are they looking to stop burglaries or are they looking to catch a crook. Two different goals, and the latter should be left in the hands of local law enforcement. Might not be a popular opinion around here, but it's the one I got.
Question- you come home and find someone in your home or on property. They are bigger and can out man you. You are armed, and draw and Tell him to stay wait for cops, and he tells you to kiss his ass and starts to walk away as if nothing you can do. There is really nothing that can be done right?
"FREEZE!"
"Who are you? This is my buddy's house!"
BANG
Guess who is going to jail.
As previously stated, I'm all for protecting your own home, or even families homes, but not a neighborhood. I'll probably catch a bunch of he'll for it, but leave it to the professionals. Why risk your life and freedom for someone's car stereo?
I'd never underestimate what a sharpie can do in the right hands, either.....
I can only see this working if the community is a small enough one where everybody knows everybody . Like how he calls about he white car in the drive way . I can see it maybe working as a deterrence if enough ppl volunteer . However acting as a crime fighting part on someone elses property may result in some trouble .
You could end up sharing a cell with Anthony.
You also have to look at the flip side of it. I am in no way defending the actions of someone burglarizing s house or something like that, but say I'm breaking into someone's car. If I see someone coming towards me from the street with a gun pointed at me, I feel that my life is in danger and you bet your ass I am going to shoot him before he shoots me. I believe it would be justified.
