for me it depends on the weapon HKs, Glock or S&W MPs, 50 to 100 rounds, Sig Sauer, 100 to 300 rounds, a new 1911, 500 to a 1,000 + rounds, just because I like shooting 1911s :)
I grew up with 1911s and BHPs and the unreliable 2nd generation S&W pistols, I know how to maintain the 1911, but you have a valid point on maintenance in the 1911.
Most polymer guns are not built for accuracy, it is build to perform in most circumstances, don't know what brand of 1911 you have but I bet it has a much better trigger than the XDM, and trigger plays a mayor roll in accuracy plus is a heavier gun.
lets see even on ball ammo .45ACP 230grs. VS, the best 9mm 147GR HP that might expand, (the .45 won't shrink) I'll stay with the .45ACP is been taking bad guys down since 1906.
All I d to my Glocks is Glock steel sights and grip plug, have enough spare parts like extended slide stop, extended mag release, (-) disconnector, etc. but don't have it on the Glocks anymore mostly all stock.
