My Deer hunting lease has banned hog hunting

Is it hunting hogs or baiting hogs that he's stopping? Stopping baiting them is a different discussion than stopping hunting them.

      shooting on public land

That's exactly what I've been told by wardens at Sherburne. The amount of funding they get comes from how many people use the WMA's and they keep track of how many people use the area by the self-clearing permits. Filling them out keeps these places open plain and simple.

      handgun hunting in Louisiana

Yes they are. They're giving you the freedom to hunt with whatever you want as long as it fits a few basic criteria. Some states have much bigger lists of restrictions which I guess could be viewed as a positive because they're more specific about what you can hunt with but the downside is you...

      Range closing on Sundays

Sherburne is closed on Mondays now. Having Monday's off I wasn't too happy to find that out the other day after driving all the way up there.

Would Love To Hear Ear Protection Ideas

I've used the Howard Leights and been happy with them for the price. Also have a pair of digital behind the ear Walkers and had custom ear molds made for them. Between the units on sale and molds I was probably into them for $350 but I also use them during archery season which is a lot longer...

      .219 Donaldson Wasp Highwall

I've loaded for a few 30-30 wildcats, not a Donaldson Wasp though. Honestly, if you haven't done any case forming/wildcatting before, you might be better served to just go with a set of 50 cases from Eabco that already have the heavy forming already done and run them into the dies you have for...

Preferred setup for Louisiana deer hunting

Since you're on public land, consider getting something legal for primitive weapons and use the same rifle through both seasons. The gun seasons are so short at least that'll give you a little more time. Second, if you really want to spend some time hunting public, pick up archery and hunt the...

      Does anyone load 6.5x257 Roberts?

The easiest source of dies is probably going to CH4D dies. They offer a pile of wildcat dies at fairly reasonable prices. For what it's worth, only the seating die can be made with a chambering reamer. The sizing die needs to be slightly smaller than the chamber in order for it to work...

      Reloading Space

After a divorce I downsized into an apt so pretty much only reloading out of my range kit these days. It's inconvenient but fortunately I'm a low volume reloader (mostly single shots, precision rifles, etc) so it's easier to make do with simpler tools.

      No Headstamps?

Late reply but check the dimensions of the cases against a 7.5 Swiss, that's what immediately came to mind with the two outside cases in the pic with the 308 in the middle. They're slightly longer, bit more taper in the case and larger rim diameter.

      LDWF seeks to increase fees

I should've bought my lifetime license a long time ago but wasn't sure how long I was going to be here. Looks like this is good motivation to do it this year and get it over with.

      Hunting with milsurp rifles?

My first deer rifle was a Savage 219 30-30 but my first "real" deer rifle as I thought as a kid was a Bubba'd Winchester 1917 my grandpa gave me that had been hacked up by great uncle back in the 30's. Beyond that, I've hunted a few times with a K31 and T38 but never taken anything with them.

      Favorite deer rifle caliber?

I have a habit of taking something different every time out so everything is a favorite depending on the day. I like handguns on public land cause they're so much easier to carry for long hikes. A Contender 10" 357 Herrett is a favorite but the 7-30 Waters is a close second. On private land I...

      Deer processing in Lafayette

Took''s on Johnston always does a good job but they're getting a little spendy. I did one at Adriens a few years ago and it was fine. My favorite so far is Pat's in Youngsville. A friend told me Nu Nu's in Youngsville is processing now. Was thinking about giving them a try this year.

The answer to gun control in 2 steps.

Perfect. Sounds like you can stop advocating dictatorship powers for the executive branch now as the solution to the problem. And it didn't even take complete subversion of congress and the constitution to do it.

      WMA Daily Permits...Are They Serious?

Count me as another that keeps a few extras in the truck. Has come in handy more than a few times.

Sharpening Knives. Maybe I've been doing it wrong!

I have to keep any sharpened kitchen knives where my wife can't reach them. Too careless, an accident waiting to happen...that or tearing up nicely sharpened edges doing things like cutting pizza on a pizza stone :)

      Supplier for holster making materials?

Thanks for the links guys. Those videos are great. Even though I have most of the tools needed, the process is a little more involved than I was anticipating. It may have to be put on hold for a few months till I get some other projects off the plate first.

      Best value single shot rifle?

I'm a single shot fan (Contender, Encore, #1) but unfortunately haven't used either of the two in question. That said, I've been really tempted to get one of the CVA Scouts in 35 Remington. I think the size and caliber is about perfect for a PW legal rifle in LA. If hunting over open fields...
