:confused I thought you could only hunt them with a shotgun. I know a couple of people who hunt them in the spillway and early on in the season (?) it is not unusual for them to get 50-100 at a time, so i am told.

Hey- what was that catchy name the state gave to nutria meat a while back trying to get people to hunt (and eat) them more? I can't remember......
    "Marsh rabbit" :D

I've eaten nutria cooked in a stew, and in gumbo, by an old master who has since passed on. The meat was lean and very non-gamey. It was very very good. As they say: "Tastes like chicken!"

In addition to the unsuccessful "Marsh rabbit" program, a number of years ago some company supposedly contracted to sell millions of pounds of nutria meat to the Chinese. I REALLY liked that concept - dump our pests on the ChiComs while getting paid!
Unfortunately, I don't think it worked out.

A nutria hunt would be great. I could put my 10/22 to good use, and I've got several Butler Creek Steel Lips 25-rounders for it!
