AR upper question

I still have the basic round plastic handguards on my upper. These should be removable without removing the upper sight base, correct? It should be a matter of pulling back and they seperate, right?

Thanks, that explains a lot. I haven't received my lower receiver yet. I've had a rock river on order for 2 months. I found out yesterday its back ordered for 7 more months I told them to get me a DPMS asap, as I'm ready to be shooting.
Anyway, I didn't want to put any pressure on the back of the upper receiver...

Hell yeah and we use to bang cleaning rods down the barrels with 7.62 patches. The fun parts were shooting cleaning rods with blanks into trees.

I wouldn't mind pushing down if I had a lower. I don't want to push on the back of the upper though...

Are you having trouble getting the delta ring down or just separating the 2 hand guard halves?

Having a second pair of hands is good.
WECSOG - Using water pump pliers - put the handles over the ring & it is easier to do by yourself.
You can buy or make a tool that hooks in the magwell & levers down on the ring.

You can push on the back of the upper - no need to bang on it though.

I can't compress the delta ring spring. Like I said, I'd have to put the back of the upper on the ground or table and push against it. I'll just wait until my lower comes in (about 2 weeks).

a $15 handguard removal tool (tapco) from cabelas works wonders also. On one of mine, it is easy remove the handguards, but the other is a b!+#$.
