What the hell is happening in LA??

I know why I like it, but why is Louisiana booming so much on cable?
With Sons of Guns, Billy the Exterminator, Duck Dynasty, Swamp People, Cajun Justice, and let's not forget Steven Seagal Lawman, how did you guys get so big on cable tv?

And do you want to be so popular? next thing you know yankees will be buying up real estate and draining swamps.

It's not hard to figure out.
1.) Louisiana offers incentives to production companies to film here.
    2.) Non union, right-to-work state.
3.) To rest of country, Louisiana is all swamp mist and voodoo, alligators and cypress trees. An exotic locale that most have never visited in person. Thats why these show try to play up the hokey 'touristy' aspect as much as possible.

I never considered the tourist aspect of it, I thought New Orleans and Mardi Gras was already one of the most popular events in the country. I was thinking of the retiring "snowbird" community(People I know) that go down to FL, GA and LA for the winter,
They would probably stay in the bigger cities.

    Never thought of voodoo either.

I think if jobs are easier to be had in LA and TX there will be more Northern flight for the Southern migration.

Yep, Tax incentives are the biggest reason right now. If you have a 60 million dollar film or a 20 mil/season tv show how much of that money do you want to go to the tax man. Gringo, you must be thinking of Celtic studios on Airline. If you ever get a chance to get in their its awesome.

Yep, that's the one. I think that was the old studio for "Master P," but I could be wrong. I wouldn't mind checking it out if I got the chance.

It makes a lot of economic sense for Hollywood to move filming here. Knowing Hollywood, I don't think I want them here and the influences they'll bring.

The Louisiana Departmetn of Economic Development is bolstering our economy by offering different incentives for video/film/audio production, manufacturing, etc. It does put us in the spotlight. However, I view the overall work that they are doing as having a very positive impact on our state. If you look at the unemployment figures, we're not doing so bad in relation to the rest of the US http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_by_unemployment_rate. Also, on a global level we're actually doing pretty good. I know from an outside perspective some of the TV shows may not highlight the best attributes of our state, but I'll take the good with the bad. The state has helped out the little company i work for and we have grown from 30ish employees to over 100. So, in essence with a little assistance from the state we're now providing employment for 60+ more families.

I would submit that there is a huge misconception in America about how Louisianan's really are. I have actually had people in other states tell me they think the moive "Waterboy" is how it really is down here.

These dumbass shows reinforce that misconception. All rednecks, or bush bats, with no coherent diction or pronunciation, living in some backwoods ass rural craphole, etc., etc., etc.

    I agree.

While at the AcuSport show in January, I went to the Glock table to create an order. As I talked with the rep, she asked me where I was from. I told her, "Louisiana." She looked at me a bit shocked. Without hesitating I told her, "We're not all like Swamp People." She laughed, and we joked about it, but there difinitely is a misconception about Louisiana.

Same thing happened to me when I went to CA. When my co-workers found out I was from LA, they were shocked and called BS because I didn't speak like a backwoods hick. I used to, but after moving to BR when I was 17, I got rid of that accent very quick and haven't gone back since.

Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman were filming "Oblivion" near my house a couple of weeks ago. Helicopters flying overhead and explosions going off... when I heard gunfire, my son and I went and grabbed the .22s for some backyard target practice! We're in the city limits, so we get in trouble for shooting... but not that night! :dogkeke:

Everybody gets their 15 minutes to make a first impression. On this site you have lawyers, businessmen, physical therapists, engineers, law enforcement, military, ect. A very diverse and respectable group.

Anybody who assumes what you are because of where your from, or judges your intellect because you talk with bit of Southern drawl is probably an asshat and should be avoided.

And this is coming from a guy who people think is a corrupt, liberal, socialist, democrat because I'm from Chicago.

Hahaha, I travel sometimes for work, and that is a true statement.

And people always get confused when I tell them I'm from LA. They usually retort that I don't sound Cajun. LOL Someone even asked if I knew the Swam People. Let's nevermind the fact that my inlaws know Terrel....

Oh I love it. Nothing like reality TV to illustrate the true nature of things and set the record straight.

It's even educational to those of us who live down here. I've lived here my entire life, and until reality TV came, I had no idea that all alligators weigh 700 lbs- or that Steven Seagal was Cajun.

I was actually heard the alligator season is so short and they were surprised by the success of Swamp People so much, that they decided to stay and film other projects in the mean time. Plus the whole being "unique" thing and having a natural disaster every 3 - 5 yrs to be on CNN.
