I scored a sack of green peanuts this weekend

My girlfriend thinks in crazy but I love boiled peanuts. If I see them I have to have them.

I went real simple on this batch, just salt and a handful of tabasco peppers. Usually I will use powdered and liquid crab boil, chili powder, garlic and onion powder and some fresh hot peppers

These boiled for three hours, I test as I go.

I tried boiled peanuts one time and never tried them again. Maybe I got a bad batch but they tasted/had the consistency of cold bland Lima beans.

Is that the way they are SUPPOSE to taste? If not, I might try them again.

These were bought from a vendor so maybe he didnt know how to do it.

I have never liked them with anything but salt. No specific time to boil them, you just gotta keep sampling until they get right.

My take on boiled peanuts:

When the are good they are really good. When they are not they are nasty. If you try 10 different places 2 will be excellent, 4 will be inedible and the other 4 won't be that great. Finding 10 different places would be a stretch and you would probably have to cross state lines.

I concur, all you need for good peanuts is salt and water. The lets make everything hotter syndrome started in Louisiana about 25 years ago.

Amen. Not everything needs (or even tastes good with) crab boil in it.

I kind of agree. Don't care for the texture. And I love peanuts. Roasted in shell especially.

I love boiled fresh boiled peanuts. They do sell them canned at WalMart and they are descent enough to enjoy. They have plain and spicy.

...you would probably have to cross state lines.

If you do, head to South Alabama or the Florida panhandle. They seem to sell them in every convince store. I even saw a pot in a Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store north of Ft. Walton Beach, FL.
