Let's get a coffee thread going. Anyone do something special with theirs? What brand do ya like? I am a community coffee guy and I like their medium or their medium-dark (special blend) roasts.

    I prefer Mello Joy Dark(Lafayette)
but drink a lot of Community Dark and Cafe Special at work.
I also drink Seaport(Houston) on occasion.

fresh whole bean, bulk columbian ground before going in to the coffee maker, drank black. nothing fancy but blows away 90% of the competition. i've roasted my own, tried different ways of brewing etc. french presses are great but really no need to get too special with coffee or follow the latest BS. Oh and the mentioned above packs a huge jolt of caffeine.

I loved my coffee from Highland Coffees at the Gates of LSU.

Whole Foods had a couple of varieties I liked when I couldn't get down to College Town.

Now I get it from Coffee Bean Direct, Costa Rican city roast, which is a borderline dark roast.

You can't get a good cuppa here in Kentucky.

    Quote of the month?

I'm a Community Coffee fan. Medium roast, pretty strong, straight black usually but sometimes a little cream when I'm feeling :ghey:

    French press is the shizzzz!
I drink straight black coffee occasionally, but it just tastes so much better with a packet of sweet-n-low and a splash of milk and cinnamon. How exactly does the french press work and how does the outcome compare to traditional brewing? I did a quick Google and it just looked complicated so I closed the tab and will wait for a fancy coffee guru here to make it sound simple and worthwhile! :)

I'll take a good cup of French roast Blue Mountain coffee made in my vacuum pot. If you really want to be a coffee snob, you'll realize that 99% of drip makers don't get the water hot enough to extract the oils, hence a hell of a good cup.

Black and sweet Community medium dark cafe special. My grandfather taught me to drink it black because fresh milk was hard to keep on a sailboat.

I'll agree, sugar & milk in coffee is amazing...but I think black coffee is like beer in that it's definitely an acquired taste.

I'm not a fancy coffee guru by any means but I like the french press over a regular coffeepot because the filter isn't as fine so you get a very slightly grainy texture with a good bit more flavor. Basically think of a cylinder/piston in an engine. Pour the boiling water in over the coffee grounds in the bottom of the press and insert the filter rod (piston). Slowly press the filter all the way down and you end up having an amazing cup of joe on top and the spent grounds compressed in the bottom of the press. The downside for me is that it takes more time than simply pushing a button so I only do it once in a while.

I mix Community Between Roast and Dark Roast 50/50. Black, hot, and strong. Occassionally a little Bushmills Irish wiskey. I think it might even keep me from loosing the rest of my hair.
