I was working the night shift across the river from the Norco Shell refinery and happened to be looking in that direction when the cat cracker exploded, it was big but this one in China looks 20 times bigger.

It makes me think of the Texas City disaster and the explosion a while back at a water park.

Not that water park was of the magnitude, but it was in China. At first I was "how does a water park explode?'

The Texas City deal had a lot of similarity.

Anyone notice the huge crane and and buildings that were small compared to the fire ball. If I'd been in that hotel room I would've lit a smoke poured a drink and thought I'd enjoy the last few moments of life.

To put things into perspective, the estimated explosive yield was 21000 tons of TNT. The same explosive power as the "Fat Man" bomb dropped on Hiroshima (minus the radioactive fallout). Wow.

It honestly looked like a very very real EOTW situation! Amazing how long it took for chaos to set in and the pucker factor to take control.
