Damnit, now I have to look for this too.

Ok, are you sure the thumb switch was on the side, not the top?
Did the thumb switch run the full length of the handle, or only half way?
Was it double or single edged?
Do you remember what shape the blade tip was?

I know the exact knife you are talking about. I remember Michael Gauthier had one and you described it to a "T". I realize this doesnt help your search but it did at one time exist. If memory serves correct I remember it being a Ranger edition knife -maybe.

You're right. I was half asleep when I posted. Questions 1-3 were redundant, but you never described the tip shape. I found an old smith and wesson knife, solid black, but otherwise exactly as described, with a tanto tip. I was asking to see if I was on the right track, but my brain was in google-fu mode, not concise question mode and I was too tired to shift gears.

Yea Marcus Descant and I order two from US Calvary back in the early 90's.
    Our's were MAC SOG editions.

but you never described the tip shape.

The knife tip is as pictured.

    Kennah!
I actually know exactly what that knife is.
Used to collect knives many years back.
You are referring to a mass-market produced chicom knockoff knife.
They were made in droves and had different logos placed on them.
The version you are looking for is a needle in a haystack find.
Catalog companies (US Cav among them) sold them at a reasonable price when available.

Best way to look for one is go back to 90's knife catalog back-issues and see if one appears.
That *might* give you a SKU or stock number that would aid you in your search.
If you absolutely are dying to get another, cold-calling companies that you suspect sold them may yield results, though I doubt it.
You aren't finding them because they were nothing more than a novelty.
The versions you actually can find are the exact same knife but with different casings/markings.
I had several of them, all same workings including blade material (which had crappy metallurgy) but different "versions" to appeal to a wider market and increase sales.

    Hope that helped.

    Cool thanks.

I really don't need a MAC SOG addition. But just thought it'd be cool to find since I had one as a kid. I swear it's still in some old ammo can at my Mom's somewhere.

    I know the feeling.
Found an old Camillus paratrooper knife (orange handle folding pocket knife with a hook blade on one end) by just going through stuff I put away over twenty years ago.
Was neat to look at it, flick it open a few times and remember how I once thought it was the coolest thing since sliced bread.
Wound up giving it to a friend for his collection; he's happy and I am too.

Memories are odd in that we all react to different things in different ways.

:) "Whos your buddy, whos your pal?.." lol. Airborne Survival were the markings, not Mac V Sog, thats what threw you off track. Im sure now you can find one for sale-- prob upwards of $45, just because it would be in a collection,or very old stock. Not impossible.

Hmm. You may be right. What primed my memory was the Yellow/Red though. Or so I thought. It's been 20 years so no guarantees lol

btw- the markings at the ricasso are " 101A" (for 101st Airborne obviously) and below that is usually " Edge Co." They were the old switchblade importers in the 80s/90s from Brattleboro, VT.
