2012 VW Passat TDI = 51mpg hwy and 44mpg city. Hybrid schmybrid, gotta love them diesels.
    2005 Chevy Silverado 5.3L = 21mpg hwy and 16mpg city.

Is the Passat at manual or the DSG Auto? I have been looking hard at getting one of those.

    As for my vehicles.
2003 Chevy Blazer 4x4 16.5 mpg avg with a mix of city and interstate.
2001 Chevy Z06 17 mpg avg, 25 mpg highway - car makes right at 700 rwhp.

One thing I have noticed in all my vehicles is I can get anywhere between 1-2 mpg by avoiding ethanol. I could probably see some better gains if I could drive without the BR traffic and road construction.

I don't know about in the TDI's, but the DSG in our GTI is effing badass. It totally sold the car for me, and you know I love my manuals. Shifts faster than a perfect manual shift, every time. Better MPG too.

I knew when I bought my Xterra it wasn't an economy vehicle. My one complaint regarding the fuel mileage isn't the expense (well, yes, I'd love better mileage!) but instead the range. I'm limited to less than 300 miles per tank full. I wish they would either offer a 2nd tank or a larger tank...

What size is the tank? My Z06 had a 19 gallon tank, I believe, as does my 370Z. Are you talking 300 city miles, or 300 miles on the highway doing 90 and flogging it, or are you seriously only getting 300 miles to the tank doing 70-80 down the freeway? If so, that really blows. I think of an XTerra as a vehicle you take camping, or on a trip. It should do more.

1999 Land Rover Discovery with a 3in. Lift, 255/85 KM2s, Roof Rack, Winch bumper and a regeared transfer case gets around 10 mpg in the city and 13 on the highway using premium gas... Of course right now it get amazing mpg because the transmission went out on it.

I just picked up a 1997 Honda CRV with AWD and I noticed it gets around 22mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway using regular gas. This car is pretty boring.

I have the automatic and yes, it scoots well. There's also enough room in the back seat that my knees don't even touch the front seat

MPG is last column. I lost 2mpg when I was driving on a tire with 10-15psi for a while. No idea it was low - my tires don't deform much when they're low on air. Normally get 15 city, 18 highway. 14x,xxx numbers is mileage.

She's getting older - I keep a closer eye anymore.

Oh, and I still feed it cheap low octane.

As my primary driver, I drive a 09 BMW 328i sport, getting 26.7 mpg combined, about 32.5 on hwy. very surprised how great this car is on gas. I do pump premium, however I gas up at SAMs for almost 20 cents cheaper so premium not really an issue. And I have the 7 speed steptronic transmission. My top end speed is scary.

Me - 2000 VW Beetle TDI manual: 42-44 around town and 48-52* on highway
    Wife - 2004 Lexus LS430: 17-18 around town and 24-26 highway

    * to get over 50 I have to run tires at max pressure and drive at or less than 60 mph. Needless to say I very seldom get over 50 mpg!!

2000 Mercury Grand Marquis GS 4.6L EFI SOHC V8. My car does not have the handling package with rear sway bar, dual exhaust and upgrade wheels. It needs a tune up and two new tires, has 182k miles with the original engine/drivetrain. I normally drive 5mph over and I'm addicted to cruise control... easily 75% city driving and 25% hwy. These are my results since Sept. 23rd until my last fill up last night. I average around 18mpg in town and I was able to get a whopping 255 miles out of a half a tank before I filled up last night with a little over 26.5mpg. I normally get 21-22 on the hwy, I always put 87 octane Chevron gas in my car, no exemptions! ;-p
