Getting ready for bed about 30 minutes ago, I move my PF9 in its holster from my work desk to my nightstand. Even with a good grip on the holster, as I open the nightstand drawer, I drop the gun. Probably 5 feet to the floor. I tried to move out of the line of fire, but that muzzle followed my face exactly the whole way down.

Nothing happened. I'm still here, and I'm thankful for hammer block safeties. But now I can't sleep. I'm pissed off that I dropped it, and even with the safeties in place, I still feel like I'm lucky to be alive. I hate those "what if" situations. They make my mind race.

Tell me I'm not the only one on here that had this happen to them.

I've never personally dropped one but one day I was shooting my brand new Savage at Sherburne. Went down range to swap targets and some dingleberry decided he was going to play with my rifle while I was downrange. He knocked it off the stand onto the concrete. Good thing the chamber was empty and good thing he took off before I could complete my hundred yard dash.

I forgot I had my p95 on me one time and I dropped in the toilet of a fast food restaurant.

Luckily I wasn't prairie dogging, or I would have had some major cleaning to do.

Relax cap'n. And thank your maker again. Not many people will admit it but I'd bet 99% of us have had a coulda what if mishap. Just like driving a car or most anything else that has the potential to kill, you put your hands on it enough times and you're bound to have an upset or near miss. It's what you do afterward that matters.
Mine was about 12 yrs back, always carried a little cheapie birdhead grip .22 full of ratshot for the snakes in a clip on in the pants holster. Jumped off my big red one evening in the driveway and out came the pistol. I knew I had a full six in it and I knew the risk of carrying on a loaded cylinder with the hammerblock safety off. But I wanted to get the drop on mr cottonmouth. I guess a load of #12 in the crotch woulda been a fair trade to some for a snakebite, but not to me. I wasn't surprised when I heard the pop, but I was, and pleasantly so, when I realized I missed me. Not sure how, or where the load went, but I was unscathed. Immediately saw the concrete ding in the hammer and it indeed landed square on it. I still carry that little single action when I'm out in the woods or fishing, but I never leave myself at risk like before.
Glad you got away clean brother. Don't sweat it. It's done. And the memory of it will keep you straight from here on out.

Yes, despite being drilled on safety from early childhood, it has happened to me.

Years ago, while unloading luggage from car trunk, a Smith 3913 (with a "trigger job") fell out of case, onto concrete floor, muzzle-up, me looking into bbl.

As you say, thenk GOD for the hammer-block.

I know somebody that left his Walther PPK in his pants pocket when he washed chothes. Then he heard "thump, thump, thump" in the dryer. Round in the chamber & hammer down. No holes on either the washer or dryer.

While a private in the army I was digging a machine gun pit my m4 with blank adapter and miles laser. The gun some how fell from the m60 it was perched on and fell into the pit, about 4 feet, discharging a blank, and making the miles laser fire and "kill" my team leader. The gun was deadlined and I carried a saw after that. Lol

Man I must have dropped my Glock 19 about 10 times the first year I had it. The worst was when I fumbled it when trying to move it from the top of my car to my hand so I could get in and put it in the glove box. It just fell down and bounced off the seat and rotated a few times in the air.

Scared the crap out of my nephew who was getting in on the passenger side. Didn't bother me because it was always in m possession and I didn't chamber it unless I was out shooting. Plus I'd read about all the spiffy internal safeties.

Never have dropped one myself, but my wife has dropped my mark III onto concrete. Thankfully no discharge. I've come close but I have already decided I'll let it hit the ground before I try and grab for it and grab the bang switch on accident. I'll take my chances and trust the internal safties before I grab a glock trigger on accident. And my pf9 I'm not worried about anyway since the thing is hammer fired dao, with a hammer block.

Thank you all for sharing your stories.

I'm still not cool with it, but it happened. All I can do is try to make sure it never happens again.
