My friend is looking into getting a 270 rifle. My experience with rifles is limited(.22LR & 30-06). Can anyone suggest a brand they have experience with? ... this gun will be used primarily for hunting deer.

If he wants a bolt action, like gunut said, the Remington Mod 700.

I happen to have one in .270 Win, and it's a very fine, accurate rifle....

Savage is a tough one to beat. Take a look at the hunter series.

Yes- I should have mentioned I also have a Savage Model 110 that is a very accurate rifle as well- although the main reason I got it was because I wanted a southpaw bolt gun....:)

You can't beat Savage for the price/accuracy combo, IMHO....

Savages out of the box I find are some of the most accurate rifles. They also have a better factory trigger than most. The 700 is a great rifle. Their factory triggers are ok but a little heavy for my liking. I own both savages and remmys and both are great. Can't go wrong with either. Don't forget to look at the new marlin rifles. Have heard good stuff about them.

I really like my Remington 7400 semi-auto .270. It shoots great. Very accurate and an auto loader. Whats not to like.

In bolt guns I like the Rem. 700

Depending on how much you're looking to spend, I shoot this. A lot of people hate on the new Sakos, but I love mine and if you're willing to go pricier, you can throw down on a Steyr Mannlicher Class Full Stock.

If the only thing he'll ever be doing with the rifle is hunting then I'd recommend a Tikka T3. If he wants a bolt action that he may eventually build on, then get a Rem. 700.

Tikka's arent bad at all, pretty much a spartan version of the Sako. Both are owned by Beretta and they didn't even bother to change the naming schemes.

Another option in a bolt gun is the Weatherby Vanguard or Howa.
Marlin & Stevens also would be contenders depending on budget.

If he wants used that opens up way more variables but there are some good deals out there. Getting another caliber widens the opportunities, not saying a .270 isn't good.
