How about a guard animal that can pull double duty? I've heard of people with some kind of chicken or other fowl that makes for a good perimeter alarm to alert you and of course you get eggs and meat from the deal.

There is a 3 year old female in the Advocate today very cheap.
No kidding! I am planning to buy 20-40 acres, and priced the cheapest fencing I could, just out of curiosity, and it would cost more than the property itself to do even a 4.5" tall wire type (like a 4-6" "block/grid" type, I don't know what it's called, Chain link was ABSURD $$$) fence. Barb wire is about the only way to do it economically unless you are keeping something in/out that is going to pay for the fence (agriculture/livestock).
